Bread
Butter
Cheese
Cook on griddle until cheese is melted and bread is toasted.
Anything else added? It's no longer a grilled cheese.
Any questions??

Like to occasionally add a little garlic or Cajun seasoning to butter. Hope it's still makes it as grilled cheese.0

You know what's even better? Use mayonnaise on the outside instead of butter.
I like to bastardize my grilled cheese with the addition of a slice of tomato and some thousand island dressing, but I'm a weirdo.0 -

That would be a grilled cheese & tomato sandwich.0 -

Except in the UK we call it cheese on toast.
Grilled cheese makes it sounds like it's just a block of cheese, grilled.0 -

No, cheese on toast is... cheese on toast. In the UK they're known as cheese toasties.
The UK have their own misleading food names. "Macaroni cheese" anyone? No, not cheese made from macaroni. It's what Americans would call "macaroni AND cheese". >.< Haha0 -
So it would be considered outside of the "Rules of Culinary Acceptance" to add bacon?
I know.. I know. I had to ask.0 -

Unless it's a toasted sandwich!
Butter with cheese on toast is 'gilding the lily' Bit of Branston under the cheese and you're talking!0 -

Cheese. Bread. Butter. It's simple.0 -
Before cooking I like to sprinkle a little parmesan cheese on the bread mixed with a dash of garlic. On the inside of the sandwich I like to add a little crushed red pepper. Often served with a favorite dipping sauce, in my case, BBQ.
The flavor is directly proportional to the amount of butter you use.
I try not to make grilled cheese sandwiches any more...0 -
tomato= still grilled cheese
bacon= still grilled cheese
turkey, tuna, roast beef etc.=/= grilled cheese.

Little tip... buy a bag of pepperoni like they use on pizzas. Place the pepperoni on a towel with another towel over it and microwave for 30-60 seconds until they are crispy and dried. They taste JUST like bacon but hold their crispiness really well in a grilled cheese plus they are super fast and convenient.0 -

Consider me a rebel then. Bacon makes everything better!0 -
So, when ya'all make grilled cheese, do you use the 1 recommended servings size of 1 slice? To me, it is not a grilled cheese without at least 2 slices.0
