I don't really have an opinion on the topic, but this post is ridiculous. The "thousands of screaming fans" have a huge effect on professional athletes. It takes a lot of experience to deal with it. And it's not uncommon at all for players to lose focus because of the fans. Just sayin...

It was a tongue in cheek comment - you really think anyone would lose focus because 2 people were 'chatting'???

No yapping, but, unfortunately, there is a guy with whose workout I occasionally coincide. He doesn't yap, but he SINGS, loudly, not at all well (with headphones on), and off-key, while on the elliptical. Initially, it was amusing to hear his enthusiasm. Now, I'm glad my path rarely crosses his. I can't get the volume up sufficiently to drown him out.

LOL! I think you and I go to the same gym! I have this guy, too, and while it's great that he is enjoying his music, does he always have to pick the treadmill or elliptical right next to me when there are plenty of others free?? And he wears sandals which just makes my feet hurt thinking about it! :noway:

The only issue I have with it if the gym is packed and there taking ages to do a set on equipment people are waiting to use because there more interested in talking then lifting.

    I had that experience yesterday...and I workout at home...:noway:

My friggen man child is in my workout room chatting away, expecting answers etc...

I'm like don't talk to me in the middle of a set...

He was good until my last rep on my last set of OHP, he starts again asking questions, stupid me answered not thinking...I failed....and I was in the zone then all of the sudden bam...gone...bar didn't go up...I cursed.

You just made me think of my bf. I don't mind exercising in front of him (I exercise at home) but sometimes he playfully teases me while I do a squat or do my leg lifts, he makes this noise that completely throws me off and just makes me laugh and for some reason it immediately makes whatever I'm doing 10x harder

A stern look usually does the trick

Or once I moved away from the back of the class more towards the front where I couldn't hear the idiots and could actually hear the instructor and the music. I blame the instructor because if they can hear themselves talking, then her music isn't loud enough :)

Oh, and IN, for words of wisdom from cardio class experts

In a kickboxing class sometimes moving isn't an option - there's only so many bags - and they're attached to the ceiling so it isn't like I can just pick up my bag and move.

Between my loud music and heavy weights...I don't notice or hear anything at the gym. Well, that's not true. Sometimes I notice attractive men.

    LOL

Shockingly, your quoted post was made by someone I'm already ignoring.

Hey, you're the one who said you wouldn't delude yourself into thinking your fitness regimen was complete without weights. Do you really not know any healthy, fit women, say, in their fifties or sixties that never picked up a heavy weight? No? Geez and I thought I needed to get out more

A pretty good reason why the yappers are such a waste of space!!

This happened to me last night. The gym was noisy because everyone was there after work and/or dinner. The gym also has music on, gym machines going and casual conversations with people - which is all fine. This female was on the elliptical two down from me was on her cell phone. I was listening to my music with headphones on and I could still hear her loud mouth!! Drove me crazy!

I have to admit the other day my yurbuds broke which I have always been plugged for gym time. I had a couple guys having the time of their life screaming about how their chests were going to be huge in a couple months. I was mid-set on some heavy inc DB presses and I lost concentration. I wasn't use to hearing chatter and I was a little pissed at myself for wondering how two guys whose chests were less developed than 7th grade girls were going to get jacked so quickly...
