Binged this morning? What should I do?

I ate 1450 calories just this morning and I have the whole entire day left. I find that I can't stop thinking about food and when I do eat, I binge. This is the first time I binged in a month. I feel absolutely horrible. My main question is, what should I do for the rest of the day; eat a 150 calorie salad for dinner and nothing else for the rest of the day or try to burn off at least 200 so that I have more room for a snack later on. I'm on maintenance right now, but the scale hasn't been giving me much to be happy about these past few days. Advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Addiction sucks..and to be addicted to something that is legal and ALWAYS around - well that sucks even more. I know how you feel exactly.
I would suggest fruits/veggies for the remainder. Do not beat yourself up - tomorrow is a new day. Just make sure you learn from this and think abt this feeling of regret, the next time you may want to binge. :-D0 -
Sometimes off days happen. What I would do is workout, and make a healthy dinner. You can start fresh tomorrow. What I wouldnt do is say to yourself 'well I already blew my day so why not go eat whatever for lunch and dinner too'.0

this. Don't beat yourself up. You made a bad choice. Forgive yourself and make better ones for the rest of the day. Tomorrow, start over with better choices at the beginning of the day. :flowerforyou:0 -
Drink some water, go for a walk. Don't obsess over it. Eat a healthy lunch/ dinner later. If youre hungry later, dont deprive yourself just because you binged. Move on and learn from it.0

Hopefully it will keep you full for a while
I'd expect to go over for today, and possibly do some damage control over the course of the next week.0 -
Exercise and finish the day as if you had not binged. Start tomorrow fresh. Without knowing your calorie budget........ 3500 calories=1 pound. If your breakfast is 1000 calories over 'normal' you gained less than 1/3 pound if nothing else changes and you stay within budget for the rest of the day, not counting the extra. in the grand picture 1000 calories over once will not mean much just don't make it a habit.
Beating yourself up over it will not help either.0 -

This. Don't beat yourself up. Just eat a normal lunch and dinner and eat healthy again tomorrow. ((HUGS))0 -
shake if off. eat a sensible lunch and dinner and get back on track throughout the week.0
-
Eat your regular food or slightly less if it's not going to cause you grief- and go work out and do better tomorrow.
Remember average trend line for the week is more important than a day to day event.0 -
Don't stress over it! It happened...plenty of time left in the week to consume below yoru daily allotment to allow you to end up under for the week.... It's a journey.... it happens...
Good luck!0 -
i thought this said "banged this morning" and i was going to come in and post a high-five gif.
as far as binging this morning, try to adjust for it the rest of the day and pick back up tomorrow.
one day isnt going to kill your progress.0 -
I just checked out your diary, and frankly if I were eating what you eat I would be constantly thinking about food too! I would suggest adding in SOME type of exercise on a regular basis and eating some more substantial meals.0
-
Eat reasonable the rest of the day and start again tomorrow!0

is exercise an option?0

I thought this was a Netflix problem, cause I do that all the time. It can suck a whole weekend away if I don't watch myself.0

Yep. If I ate nothing but nuts, I'd be starving. Eat a more balanced breakfast. Plan your meals ahead of time rather than guessing what you will have leftover for the rest of the day.0 -
I weight lift 2-3 times a week with some cardio on rest days. I just don't think it's enough.0
-
I'd eat reasonable but a bit on the light side at each meal (250 calories per meal or so) for the remainder of the day and use those extra calories today to fuel a workout.0
-
This is delightfully simple! Put yourself back on track right away .... don't delay. Get some physical activity and don't punish yourself any more because it's NOT going to help. As of right now, you're back on it.0

You should definitely work on getting more protein into your diet. I see that your protein goal is relatively low and that you're still 20+ grams under on a regular basis. When I don't get enough protein, I'm more likely to go overboard and snack too much.
I'm guessing from your diary you're vegetarian since I didn't see any meat but did see eggs once or twice. Keep trying to get more sources of protein into your diet--eggs, soy, lentils, beans, protein cereals like Kashi, maybe even more protein powder and bars. Nuts are a great source of healthy fats, but it can be easy to go overboard and use up too many calories that you could be putting toward hitting your other macros and getting your vitamins and minerals.
Log your binge and move on, but keep thinking about the food choices that you're making to help you avoid another binge.0 -
For today, what they said - forgive yourself, eat healthy, exercise maybe a little more than you otherwise would, and pick it up again tomorrow. Setbacks happen.
For tomorrow... well, in looking at your diary, you're heavy on nuts & seeds.
Those are good for you, but high in fat & calories.
Keep some, but the calories you're spending there could get you a lot more food to keep you full longer, as well as providing a better range of nutrients.
It looks like you're not getting enough nutrients, definitely not the recommended amount ot fruits & vegetables.
As _part_ of one recent breakfast, you had a bunch of almonds:
Nuts - Almonds, 123 g
711 calories
26 g protein
62 g fat
24 g carbs
I played with entering breakfasty things into the diary, and came up with:
2 large eggs, scrambled
1 mushroom, 1 green onion, 1/2 cup chopped red bell pepper
1/4 c shredded cheddar cheese
(put them together, you've got an omelette)
1 banana
1 piece of whole wheat toast + 2 T strawberry jam
580 calories
27 g protein
20 g fat
80 g carbs
That's 20% fewer calories,
the same protein,
1/3 the fat,
and 3x the carbs.
(And we haven't even addressed the large amount of honey at that meal... it's supposed to be a _condiment_, hon.)0 -
Here's a useful calculator, from Baylor College of Medicine. (Yes, it says "children's resource center", but this calculator is for adults too.) It will show you how many servings you need of grains, proteins, vegetables, fruit, oil, & milk.

It may be that you're not getting enough nutrition (maybe even not enough calories), which is why you're so fixated on food.
You can eat pretty much all the fruits & vegetables you want, fill up on them, add a serving of protein & whole grain, and you're still going to be right about the 1600 calories you want.
Here... MFP says this would be 1643 calories for the day:
breakfast is scrambled eggs with vegetables,
lunch is vegetable soup with 1/2 cup each of barley and lentils,
dinner is a stir fry with an assortment of vegetables, 4 oz of grilled chicken, and served with 3/4 cup of brown rice; chocolate pudding for dessert.
(If you swap extra firm tofu in for the chicken, you save 100 calories... have a full cup of rice.)
There's protein at each meal to help keep you feeling full.
Use the fruit for snacks in between.
The food list for the day to make that plan:
2 large eggs
15 mushrooms
2 cups chopped red bell pepper
2 cups chopped eggplant
1/2 cup barley
1/2 cup lentils
1 cup bamboo shoots
1 cup sliced water chestnuts
1 cup chopped carrot
4 oz grilled chicken breast (skinless)
3/4 cup brown rice
2 medium onions
1/2 box Jello instant sugar-free fat-free chocolate pudding
2 medium apples

i would probably work out. Even if its just a brisk walk for an hour, it will still make a pretty large dent. I would also eat fruit/veggies the rest of the day.0

I have struggled with binge eating, after I was diagnosed with anorexia and honestly the best advice I can give you? Never under or over compensate for a bad moment. Further restriction leads to more binging. Just pretend it didn't happen eat the rest of your meals and move on. As you won't be over hungry the next day and risk the same thing happening. Its one day of a whole year of how many years in your life. One day isn't the end of the world although it may feel like it at the time. Just have nice balanced meals for the rest of the day. And do make sure you are balancing you meals as this can often result in the over eating. Add me if you ever want to chat. I know the struggle all to well.0
