Those hydroxycut pills are just ground up green (as in unroasted) coffee beans. That is literally it. There is conflicting evidence that it even does anything. Its supposed to stimulate your metabolism, but I doubt it will do more stimulating than a regular old cup of coffee would.

    NO. NO. NO. NO. NO.

People still do diet pills? Yikes. As if the gluten-free, juicing, detox/cleanse, Dr. Oz fads weren't bad enough.

Eat at a reasonable caloric deficit and stay far away from diet pills (and the other things I listed above).

Has anyone tried the Hydroxycut pills and do they work??

These and all other diet pills are poison!

No, they are not. You don't need to lie and exaggerate to make your point.

The reality is, there is some moderate "help" from using some ergogenic and thermogenic aids in weight loss. Caffeine and ephedrine are two common stimulants that actually have some positive effects for weight loss. They don't really help you burn that much fat or magically liquify a spare tire - they seem to help take the edge of hunger and allow you to work out more intensely under the extra challenges of caloric impair (which demonstrably reduces your athletic ability).

I actually take ephedrine - for nasal congestion. It's the only thing that really works for me during early summer pollen season without making me drowsy. It does make me less hungry, but not to the point of skipping meals. It's a minor effect.

Hydroxycut used to have ephedrine, but it has been banned from advertising as a weight-loss aid from some incidents derived from improper use. As usual, some people think "more is better" and stimulants shouldn't be taken lightly. I once had the shakes for about 2 hours from having too many coffees in my early 20's (about 12 coffees. Yes, I'm an idiot). As it is, it has been substantially neutered and you'd probably be better off without it. Or just take a coffee.

But following that idiocy, I've learned to actually do some research. I recommend the supplement analysis at examine.com. They compile the results of scientific paper journals and weigh them according to their reliability for different supplements, aids, etc. Not surprisingly, most stuff doesn't work. You can even consult the source papers if you're scientifically inclined.

The truth is not mean. Or cozy. It's the truth, simply. Or with regard to nutrition, supplements, etc, not even, simply the state of science as currently stated. It's simply the best explanation we have so far for things.

Saying "the pills are poison" is not the truth.

Going on a huge tangent "just count your calories" is factually correct. It doesn't answer the question. So no, it's not mean. It is simply a useless answer. If a post asks "do you have good chicken recipes" and you reply "use my vegan thai curry" you're not really helping.

ToS dictate we are all adults here. Unless a thread is truly derailed (we have plenty of those), why not simply answer the question "has anyone tried the pills and do they work"?

Take a look at the actual scientific papers Vs. the opinionated answers. Now see which one has more facts to support them. About half of the answer here are garbage (in the sense that they don't answer the original question, either anecdotally or through peer-reviewed research).

Hydroxycut is essentially a caffeine pill. They're expensive, and they're dangerous. I was taking them for a while back about a year ago. The first night, I took one pill and went out to a crab feed. I was horribly sick, but assumed it was the food. Second day, was mostly home on the single pill, didn't feel great but no big deal.

The third day, I was at work and I upped it to two pills. Within an hour, I was throwing up. I had the shakes, my heart rate was out of control-- it was just too much caffeine and, on top of my diet, it was too much on too little.

Don't do them-- they're dangerous and not worth it. Instead, buy an espresso machine. Take two shots of espresso, wait half an hour, and then work out for forty minutes. That's the best way to use the caffeine buzz, and it is so, so much less than Hydroxycut-- both financially and in the way of risk.
