Fitbit says more calories burned when not worn?

Hey everyone,

I'm wondering what's up with the calorie burning count on my Fitbit One. Looking back on my diary, it consistently says I burned 1967 calories per day when not worn. Lately, I've been wearing it all day while logging over 10,000 steps per day. However, I struggle to get my calorie burn count past 1700 per day even when logging over 10,000 steps. I don't log any manual exercise or anything. My weight is also synced from my Fitbit Aria, so everything should be accurate solely based on the devices (if that makes sense).

Soooo I have both my Fitbit and MyFitnessPal set to sedentary. MyFitnessPal estimates that my sedentary lifestyle burns a tiny bit over 1700 calories per day. With my Fitbit synced to MyFitnessPal, the fact that I barely burn 1700 calories while logging over 10,000 steps makes it seem like I'm just being sedentary, which is obviously not true.

I've used my Fitbit on and off for over a year. Any advice?

Update: I thought that maybe this was all due to me not wearing my Fitbit for a while (I guess it gets better as you wear it over time). So after wearing it for a week straight, I left it alone all day yesterday. As I check back on the log, it again says I burned 1967 calories AND I climbed 9 floors yesterday. Dafuq.

Go into Settings and set Calorie Estimation to Disabled. When enabled, it applies an average historical daily burn on days when you don't wear it. When disabled, it applies a sedentary/BMR estimate.

The floors data is determined by air pressure changes, so that will always be a little wonky. Don't put much stock in it. It doesn't affect your calories.

Also, the calories burned on Fitbit include what would be normal body functions such as breathing etc for your height/weight, so even if you have no steps, it also assumes some calories burned from things like breathing and digesting etc. Not sure that it would be a lot, usually by 6pm, it only assumes 1300 for my bodily functions ....
