Simple (but effective) workouts?

The only reason I ask that they be simple is because I want to be able to do them at home. I don't have access to a gym until the fall (I'm a college student) because the gym on campus only allows you inside if you are registered for the current semester (which I am not). I also don't have any free weights. Just a treadmill and olyptical (sp?).
I know I can do squats, push ups and planks.
What kind of variations can I do for those workouts and what are some new ones I should try?

I like wall sits. You basically put your back against the wall and stoop down so that your knees are at a 90 degree angle. I do this at the gym and put a 10 lb plate on my leg and hold for 30 seconds and repeat two more times. You can substitute with a book or hold a ball between your legs).
Step-ups are good too- make sure you are doing it on a high, stable platform and hold something heavy in your hands for resistance.
I don't know the name of this routine but you stand with your feet apart, place your hands behind your head and jump, landing with your knees bent. Do 12 of these, rest and repeat a few times. It sounds easy but it will kick your butt lol0 -

I can highly recommend Callanetics as a great way to tone and shape your body. When used alongside a Cardio DVD, I've been seeing good results!
I don't like the gym environment or prices, for £20 I have all the exercises I need to keep going :-)

Thanks for all the replies so far everyone! I'll definitely be making up a workout sheet for myself and start next week
Also, would Zumba be effective to incorporate a couple times a week as well??0 -

anything that you LIKE and do regularly will be a benefit!!!0 -
people gave a lot of great sites and links.
also, start slowly budgeting small workout equipment for home. I love Full Body weight routine and do it a lot. However, I really noticed improvement when I used equipment.
For example, purchased myself a pull-up bar. Purchased myself a yoga mat. For my birthday I received a power rack (cheap from Craigslist). If you want it bad, make it happen.0 -

And this^^^ is basically how my husband and I equipped our home gym. We still want a barbell and plate set, but no room currently.0 -
I use youtube videos for short and simple workouts when I just don't have the time or I want something light. I find the Xhit Daily and Fitness Blender channels are fantastic.0

As stated above, Fitnessblender and blogilates are great. Also, check out BeFit Channel on YouTube. Befit Extreme 30, or 90, as well as BeFit HIIT, BeFit Go are all great series as well.0
