please help me

Hi y'all I have a problem i was hoping to get advice on. I have an active job and in the past eating 1200 wasn't enough so I bumped it up to 1400. I'm currently on week 2 of Jillian Michaels Body Revolution and have entered that as exercise under circuit training. According to the app its 293cals. So I'm eating my 1400 + 293. But in not losing. Can anyone help? I'm getting discouraged. I have an event in 3 months that I wanna fell good for and I don't want to be spinning my wheels going nowhere. I'm very strict on not eating something I can't count and on measuring everything so cheating isn't my problem. Thanks!!

Starting a new exercise program (or increasing the intesity of your current program) can lead to a bit of water weight gain. This is perfectly natural as the muscle are suffering microtrauma (you're probably a bit sore too) and retaining water and glycogen to help with healing. So this is verly likely the reason why you're not seeing a loss on the scale just yet. Try measuing progress in other ways like pictures and body measurements and paying attention to how your clothes are fitting. As your body adjusts to the new workout, the water retention will lessen.

In the meantime, make sure you're logging your food consistently and accurately and drink plenty of water.

I'm also on 1400 calories a day. I am on day 5 of Jillian's 30 Day Shred & I don't eat back my exercise calories. I don't know if this is good advice or not, but I've already lost a couple of lbs. & can tell that I am building muscle. Jillian is kicking my butt!

Thank you for the help. Do you think I should be eating so much?

It won't be EXACTLY 293 calories - get your head around the fact that all calorie measures are estimates.

How long have you been trying? Start weight? height? Any medical issues?

I understand that it's estimates. But I had been having great success. But over the post month I can't seem to lose. No medical issues. 4' 11"...161 now... doing this program 2 weeks.

So you WERE losing, then you started JM (and increased your calories to allow for that?)

If you've only be following that for 2 weeks, your body may need longer to adjust. Could you change your diary settings to public?

I started in October. Lost quite well for several months. Then in Feb-April I took a break to focus my attention on some family stuff. Went off BC and gained 5 back. Been doing good for about a month and a half but haven't seen any results. So I started JM almost 2 weeks ago hoping that would give me a boost and nothing. I'm very active I take approx 1200 steps a day and am a housekeeper.

It sound like some adjustments might be needed in your diet to maximum your success.

A rule of thumb that assisted me with weight lost was reducing the amount of bread or complex carbs while increasing my interval training. Feel free to add me if you need some assistance during your journey.

Umm....no. You are eating at a deficit & doing circuit training (cardio....with some weights).....so you are not building muscle (sorry) :flowerforyou:

Your muscles may be retaining water (appear bigger).....you may be getting stronger (not the same as have more muscle)....or the layer of fat covering muscles is disappearing.....revealing existing muscle. This is all good.

The point of eating calories back is that MFP gave you a deficit BEFORE exercise. Eating at a really large deficit may prevent you from "keeping" existing muscle. This depends upon how much weight you have to lose. Closer to goal is becomes really important to eat enough protein (and calories....as fuel).....so your body doesn't burn muscle along with fat.

Why does losing weight equal looking good to you? If doing the workout you're doing now is building muscle and causing you to burn off fat, you should be looking significantly different, clothes would be fitting better, but your weight actual might increase.

I'd suggest taking measurements once a week (neck, chest, belly, hips, arms across the bicep, thighs) and comparing. If those numbers are moving down, who cares about the scale?

The calorie burn might be enough of an overestimate that if you're eating all the earned calories back, it wouldn't give you enough of a deficit to lose. Maybe try eating back only 150-200 of them and see if that helps.

I'm also wondering if your body is still adjusting to you going off BC. Hormones can wreak havoc on weight loss.
