I started out with 25" calves.... the size of your thighs... and I bought boots, wore shorts, etc. Granted I sometimes wanted smaller legs, but you have what you have until you change it. Of course, as you lose weight, you will get small over your entire body, but you seriously can't just love yourself enough to say that you have big calves and move on? Do you think that people care? No... ! Then why do you care so much? Your self-worth isn't a number on a scale or numbers on a tape measure... you're working at being a better you - now there's something to focus on!

Stop worrying about it. They don't look like big to me. I'm sure no one even notices much less thinks they are "giant". People look at and take in your entire image not just the one tiny detail you seem to focus on. Rock some shorts and skirt. No one is perfect. We are all different. Having thicker legs isn't "wrong". A little self acceptance goes a long way.
Also, lowering your body fat is the best way to reduce the size, but keep in mind that your build might just mean you won't have tiny legs.

Finally, your legs do look good as they are now.

    This and this.

You can only change your general shape so much, but by strength training and eating at a small deficit, you're going to continue to shed fat. You won't be building any new muscle, so your general size will decrease overall. Now it may not do that proportionately, so if you like the majority of your body right now, I wouldn't sweat rocking some strong looking calves.

NOPE! boots are a NO GO! i have a pair of UGGS that i can wear ONLY if i roll them down because they cant go past my ankles :(

Not that it's boot season but plenty of manufacturers make wide calf boots. I just clicked on the first one here and it said the calf circumference was 17" plus there's a stretch panel.

I have really thick legs, I always have. I refuse to wear shorts even when its 100+ degrees. I am 5'4'' and 159 pounds. My calves are 16.75'' and my thighs are 25 1/2''. I recently lost 24 pounds but my calves haven't changed at all!! I just want to be able to wear shorts and cute summer dresses and feel good in public, hell even in the privacy of my own house. I hate feeling like EVERYONE stares at my GIANT calves! Anyone have any pointers or going through the same thing?

I'm kind of with everybody else: your legs look great. Learn to love them. My calves and thighs are bigger than yours and I consider them an asset.

That being said, you probably will notice a reduction if you decide to continue slimming.

First of all, if your profile picture is you, you look beautiful and your legs are amazing.

You should be rocking short shorts and heels with those stems!

...as for how to make them smaller? Lower body fat. You *can* lower LBM too if that's the sort of thing you're into.

Yes I have lost 2 inches in my thighs but my calves measure the same exact.

I have 42 in hips 25 inch thighs and I think my calves are around 15 in. I love it!! I am trying to lose at least 17 lbs, but if I could just stay that thick, build muscle lose fat I would be so happy. Embrace those thick legs. They look just fine the way they are.

I do feel ya on the shorts though, but I just don't wear them cause my thighs rub together and that is annoying.

Same here. I'm 5'1" and my calves are currently 14.5" and my thighs are 22". I've lost 30+ lbs, and I think only 1" has come off my calves and 2.5" off my thighs; however, I have noticed a fat loss around those areas, but not much where I measure (like above/below my calves). At this point, if I flex you can feel my calves are solid muscle. Some of us are just thicker! There's nothing wrong with that. Wear the shorts and keep in mind some skinny dudes trying to bulk are jealous.

I'm 5'5", my thighs are massive, and nothing in the world could make me show them off in shorts. They're also where I have cellulite, which disgusts me when I look in the mirror. They're pretty much the bane of my life!

Me too, but mine have definitely decreased with 42 pounds lost and weight lifting. Keep working at it.

My thighs and calves are thick too. They're also fat, basically, but even though I've lost lots of weight, they didn't get much smaller compared to other bodily parts. So I guess I'm kind of disproportionate, and I'm not going to change my legs dramatically even if I can get the best out of them. But I think you look amazing! "Thick" legs look cute on you!

I am looking at the before and after pictures, there is a marked difference and it is awesome. Your legs are not huge. My daughter feels the same way you do and seriously, there is nothing that I can see. You look amazing, write yourself a little note, stick it on your mirror, print out these very smart and intelligent responses, do whatever you have to but, please accept that you rock!!!
    Have an awesome weekend :)

Now you're just being silly! I'm looking at all of the pics on your profile and there's no way that your UGGS don't fit your calves. Also, in response to the pic you said you'd like to look like - it actually looks like your thighs are smaller and calves are about the same size as hers, proportional to your height because I have no idea who she is or how tall. Take a good hard looks at your pic and actually see what's there rather than YOUR IDEA of yourself in the photo. You've got a bangin' body and have made huge strides with the progress of your figure!

And to the two other women on here talking about their thighs rubbing together in shorts or skirts... I'm not kidding, Body Glide will change your life. You can get it at any running specialty store or some sporting goods stores.

Yup...I was thinking her body looked pretty similar to the OP's! Lucky OP! :)

ETA: I would just die if I had such gorgeous legs. Seriously--they're really pretty!

Hayden Panettiere is 5'0" and 24 years old, and really beautiful, just like the OP.

I have huge calves...always have. Even when I was 50 pounds slimmer, my calves were huge. I have very bulky muscles there, and I just can't change that. I've come to accept this (very recently.....). I just can't wear those awesome boots, which sucks, but so be it. I still think people are staring at my huge calves when I wear a skirt, but oh well. I keep telling myself that everyone has some part of their body that they don't like.

Fellow thick legged girl here. I don't wear shorts till I can't take it anymore with the heat. You CAN wear shorts! Your legs look good in your picture, show them off! Its all in your head, I know its hard to cross the bridge to not care what people think but you are your worst critic. Show them legs off girl!

Yessss. Bodyglide, Goldbond Anti Chafe or even deodorant do wonders for the thigh rub.
  • I have enormous thighs and calves too. And i'm not very happy with it but i'll have to cope haha.

As someone who naturally has quite skinny legs, and is partway on a mission to get them thicker, I can only say, rock those thighs and calves! Be confident and love what you have - you'll save yourself a lot of hassle of that, trust me. We all have our "imperfections" and areas which we feel need work, but the minute I stopped worrying so much about them and focused on other areas such as performance and how I feel, they suddenly weren't as bad. Also, as you progress towards your goal and get leaner (you still have 20lbs you want to lose don't you?) the fat will come from there. Maybe not as much as you'd hoped as we all store fat differently but I'm pretty sure with a 20lb loss, some has to come from your legs.

I'd also like to say that by looking at your pic, you have fantastic legs IMO! Mine are around 24" and 14" for thighs and calves, but I really don't see that as much. I want them strong, and looking strong too!

Yep I've got thick legs so I can identify with how you feel.

That being said I think your legs look fine in your profile pic, OP. Doesn't look out of proportion to me.

that's some serious progress you got on your profile picture...looking good~

I always have thick legs. With all the training and dieting, the size didn't change much but shape definitely looks different. I can wear shorts with more confidence now because they no longer jiggle.

Love those THICK legs of yours!! Do you know how many people (male and female) would LOVE to have 'diesel' calves. I have them too so I know how you feel I used to feel the same way but you know what I learned to love them. They are yours LOVE them!
