Ready to take my life back...

Ok..I've been a member for a week now & this is my first post. I love this site & it has helped me get control of my horrendous eating habits. It seems when you hit 50, it gets harder to try...I mean the highlight of the day could be that great new Mexican place with the awesome enchiladas & sour cream sauce! Thanks to that darn Facebook, I began to reconnect with old friends from back in the Stone Ages of High School. Some looked like me, older & much heavier, others looked great, fit at 50. So as I walked up the small hill to my office, huffing & puffing a couple weeks back, it occurred to me that no one was going to hold a gun to my head & make me eat healthier much less get some exercise.
So here I am...ready to make a lifestyle change. This site really helps motivate. The tracking of food is particularly enlightening! So I bought a stationary bike & started with 5 minutes...that almost killed me. How embarrassing is that? It was even on a very low setting. As I read about other's trials & tribulations along these lines, I kept trudging along. Tonight I did 20 minutes! Still on a low setting, but working my way up. Don't get me wrong...exercise is my least favorite thing...so if anyone has suggestions of how to make it more fun...okay maybe fun is the wrong word, but easier to stick with on a daily basis, please, please share...
Funny how just knowing that others share your pain & your need to accomplish this seemingly overwhelming task, helps you to achieve success! I hope to continue reading about everyone's stories & continue to feel encouraged by each one.

Welcome!!! I know you will find the site helpful not only due to the tools, but also the support from a network of people that share your same ambitions. I find the site very helpful on many levels.

Hi, welcome! I have also just started on here and love this site!! You feel the way I felt for a long time. Tired of all the same excuses that came out of my mouth. What ever you can do is great. Every little bit helps. Excerise should be started slow. You increase like you are doing. Hang in there. Have a great start to the new week ahead of us.

My beginning was similar to yours. Mine started with a stress echo test at the Drs office last june to screen for heart problems. After about 4 minutes on the treadmill, he made me stop because my blood pressure went too high. After a few more tests, I found out that my heart was ok, I was just fat and out of shape. I started to eat healthy and started walking. I started with short walks at the mall and worked up to walking between 5 & 6 miles at a park with hills. I started in June, but didn't start using this site until mid sept.. I've lost 63.5 lbs since the beginning of June and feel great. I've never considered this as a "diet". I have done alot of label reading and have tried a lot of recipes to find healthy foods that will stay with long term.0

Very similar, I have HBP as well. Dr kept telling me take weight off & it would get better... I am hoping to find recipes & incentives to help me make a permanent change... Just counting calories helps.
Congrats on the weight loss so far! That is awesome & definitely gives me hope! I aspire to do half as well as you have done!0
