seem to be gaining instead of losing,,help.

hello guys

i desperately need some help. ive been on my diet for the past 3 weeks and i have stuck to it and not waivered at all. I weighed myself this morning for the first time in 3 weeks and i have gained 5 lbs!!
As you can imagine i am distraught i do not know what i have been doing wrong, my diet consists of:

Breakfast: Weetabix or porridge
Lunch: chicken and rice or cous cous
Dinner: typically a salad or poached egg on toast or maybe even just cereal.
Snacks: lots of apples / bananas the occasional go ahead biscuit.snack a jack biscuit

But no chocolate or any food laden with fat has passed my lips in 3 weeks,,,can anyone advise??

Thanks

How many kj are you on? Are you tracking everything? When I started weighing, measuring and writing in EVERYTHING that went past my lips, I was pretty shocked at how quickly they all added up. The food you are eating is much healthier than mine so if it is in the right quantities for losing, I don't see why you should put on :(

Just work out your calorie needs to lose weight and then make sure you're logging absolutely everything - all food and drink that you consume. Sometimes you could be snacking more than you realise and not admitting it to yourself, grabbing things from cafés when you're out and about etc!

Make sure your diet is as healthy as possible, lots of protein, lean meat and vegetables, some good fat, easy on the refined carbs (there's more sugar/salt in low fat products inculding Go Ahead bars etc so watch that)

...and otherwise.... give it some more time and if you still don't see a positive change revisit again :)

Thats a lot of carbs ..... are you doing cardio to use that immediate energy?

Make sure you weigh everything and log all you eat.

    You NEED good dietary fats.
You NEED Protein for lean body mass / muscle repair from exercise
You NEED Carbs for energy to fuel your workouts.

Bananas are high calores and Apples are high sugar = high carbs = high calories.

Work out your TDEE needs and eat 10-20% below that.

It doesn't seem like you're eating enough calories. What are your daily calorie totals like? You need to fuel your body for it to work properly.

The only thing that has EVER worked for me is calorie counting. I've maintained my weight for 30 years, and when I get to the top of my 5 lb range, it's time to lose 5 lbs. This spring, I thought I would try a more casual approach. My husband lost 35 lb 3 years ago on the 4-hr-workweek diet (slow carb, no white food, goes by a couple names). I thought I'd give it a go and I gained 3 lb in 3 weeks following it verbatim. Here's the thing: the diet allows unlimited amounts of certain healthy foods with no measuring/weighing. That worked fantastic for my husband with a starting BMI>35 but terrible for me with a BMI<20 and not a lot of margin for error.

You didn't mention your weight. If you have a lot of fat to lose, you may succeed simply with improved food selection and no measuring/counting. It's seems you have determined that that approach doesn't work for you, however. There really is no substitute for accurate counting when you want to understand why your weight is doing what it's doing.

If your goal is simply weight loss, it doesn't matter what kind of foods you're eating.

What matters is how many calories are in the foods you're eating.

Log everything accurately and religiously. You're not losing because you're consuming more than you burn. Also though, give it more time. 3 weeks isn't very long.
