This could help explain the love affair with many if not all fad diets...

"Smart people could be more susceptible to outrageous claims than others because they are skilled at defending beliefs they arrived at for non-smart reasons. These non-smart reasons can include peer pressure, sibling and parental influences, life experiences, cultural pressure and even genetic predispositions."

“More than any other, the reason people believe weird things is that they want to. It feels good. It is comforting. It is consoling.”

–Michael Shermer

I always liked Michael Shermer. But I'm a skeptic to begin with.

It's almost like you could compare certain fad diets to certain cult-like religions...

    So true!

Also, the dangers of acute, foodborne illness, caused by contamination in the field or contamination during transport or storage is downplayed by those following a raw foods diets.

Make sure you are washing your foods, particularly greens.

This also highlights the usefulness of cooking, even if certain nutrients are lowered during the process.

Big fan of Michael Shermer too, but I like Mark Twain's quote on this one better:

“It's easier to fool people than to convince them that they have been fooled.” -Mark Twain

    Oh I like that one!
