Yoghurt - Low fat/fat free/full fat/double cream choice?

What would be nutritionally the best choice when you are maintaining weight? what are the HEALTH benefits of your yoghurt fat (OR non-fat) content choice?

    personally I eat the non fat plain greek yogurt for the probiotics I stay away from the flavored ones because of all the added sugar

    Yogurt has calcium and protien esp greek yogurt.

    The difference between the low fat, fat free etc is the fat content obviously. But you do need fat in your diet to help absorb vitamins and minerals. It really does come down to a personal choice on the fat content. If you have a hard time getting in your daily calories eating double cream yogurt would be a good choice...if you are almost at your limit and want yogurt low fat/fat free would be a good choice as it is lower in calories.

    I prefer Dannone fit and light greek yogurt (cause I can't get fage) for the protien. I don't care what my fats are at and my calcium levels are pretty good too because of the cheese and milk and chocolate I get in my daily diet.
  • Thanks for your response; but would you buy the double cream plain yoghurt? Yesterday I compared the Pick n' Pay one's nutritional information to the low fat plain yoghurt and noticed that that there is not a huge difference -

    whichever fits your macros and calories that you like the taste of....

    i eat fat free greek yoghurt... if i had the calories i would eat the full fat stuff!

    Me personally I have never seen double cream yogurt (Canadian) but I wouldn't buy it personally I prefer to get my calories in other ways. The big difference would be fat content and calories.

    For example (I googled double cream) my yogurt is 100g containers and has 50 calories, 8 grams of protien...Bliss double cream yogurt strawberry and cream has 518 calories 3.7 grams of protien. Mind you mine is greek but even our regular yogurt has 3-4grams of protien so no I wouldn't personally buy double cream yogurt...to rich for me, and I can use those calories for 1 chocolate bar and a bowl of ice cream.

    I get the highest fat available in yogurt and cottage cheese when I buy them, because have a kind of hard time hitting my fat macro if I'm not diligent about it and over time I've found that getting adequate dietary fat is a huge contributor to how well I *ahem* poop. Even if I get enough (or more than enough!) fiber, if my fat is consistently lower than it should be then I am not as regular and when I DO go it's not comfortable.

    I personally like to use non-fat yogurt in my smoothies. I'm trying to ease myself into actually eating yogurt (today's day one of trying to make myself like it). But I mostly just use non-fat yogurt as a base in my smoothies. My store's brand isn't too bad macro wise.

    I get the Danon Light & Fit greek or the Kroger Carb-Master yogurts... almost identical macros on each,

    I can't stomach the Fage fat free... tastes like sour cream.

    I get fat free yoghurt cos it fits in really well with my calories and i'm practically surviving on yoghurt to get a decent amount of calcium

    If you want the yoghurt to actually TASTE good you'll need to eat the full-fat stuff. YUM.

    I eat 100g of full-fat Greek-style yoghurt for breakfast every day - 120kcal, 9g fat, 4g protein. It fits my calories and I don't really worry about fats. And it tastes nice.

    I prefer full fat. Tastes better and more filling. It is hard to find in my local grocery though. If I have to get low fat or fat free I use get a Chobani power flip with walnuts and chia seeds

    I really like the Fage Total Greek Yoghurt - tastes thick and creamy and at 96 cals per 100g pretty good on calories. The 2% one is quite nice (73 per 100g) but doesn't taste quite as nice. Both around 9g of protein.

    I eat fat free, simply because I enjoy it taste the most.
