a guide to drinking on your diet?

Yesterday was my friends 21st birthday so we went out for drinks, needless to say I cheated on my diet through the calorie intake from the achohol. I was just wondering if there was any way to be able to go out and drink with my friends while maintaining my 1390 calorie diet. I know they have light beers with 64 calories, but I'm really talking about stronger drinks.

If I know I'm going out, usually that morning I try to do a little extra cardio to gain more calories. When I go out I usually drink a Vodka Gimlet which is Vodka and lime juice.0
-
I always have whisky and diet coke--65 calories per shot and plentiful in terms of alcohol %:drinker:0
-
Tequila shots are 90ish cals a piece :drinker: :drinker:0

I run so I can have beer... I did cut way back but only during the week. I allow myself more on the weekends!0
-
Or simply realize that it's one day. You just get back to being mindful the next day. Or, better yet (here comes the mom in me) realize that drinking enough alcohol to "blow" your diet is probably not a smart thing to do in the first place. Both my older boys seem to have learned their lesson the hard way. One or two won't wreck a diet and they won't wreck you either.0

Rum and diet coke and drink it slow if I want to be good. Also water between drinks.
If I plan ahead I leave enough calories for my favorite craft beer0 -
I save calories through the week so that I have more on weekends. I usually order some sort of flavored vodka with club soda, much lower in calories than mixing with pop or juice.0

Exercise.
^^ This.
I exercise like a demon when I know I'm going out - then I can drink back my exercise calories
I really like real ale and nice dry white wine, and I've never really been keen on spirits - I don't want to do a swap, because I won't actually enjoy what I'm drinking.
I budget for a few pints, and then switch to diet coke later on if people are still out and still drinking.
The only problem comes when people start organising nights out on the spur of the moment. Like yesterday a friend texted saying "I've just found out I've got a job! And the sun's shining! Beer garden?" ... so I had to reschedule my day to get some exercise in earlier than planned ...0 -
Have you heard of the cool cup that Jawbone created? It can track the amount of calories in your drinks, including those alcoholic beverages. Check it out. A bit pricey, but also pretty cool technology.

I try not to drink during the week and limit alcohol consumption to weekends only. I steer clear of beer and sugary mixed drinks as the calories in those will add up fast.
My go-to choice is vodka with club soda. It has about 60 calories and it's tasty and refreshing, especially with a spritz of fresh lime juice. I also love wine but if I am having it, I will drink less as it is more caloric than vodka and club soda.
I always prefer to eat my calories vs drinking them.0 -

Yes. Vodka and club soda is the way to go. I lost 30 pounds while drinking every weekend. Just do lots of exercise to make up for it and try not to stop for the drunken 2am pizza on your way home.0 -

What I do is dont worry about it
One night on the town aint going to kill you. Just dont turn one night into "diet goes out the window altogether, cant be bothered exercisng"
Write it off and get back at it0 -
I would avoid the 64 calorie beer. It's full of disappointment.0

^This. Straight shots and no calorie wasting mixers. This is what I did when I used to drink.0 -
i'm a wine and beer girl. hard alcohol makes my psycho and not in a good way. extra exercise before going out. :drinker:0

You can't consider it a cheat. Try to fit it into your day. I have plans to go out tonight to celebrate a friends birthday, so I hit the gym this morning and ran a few miles and I will enjoy myself this evening! Tomorrow I'll get up and drink extra water and probably go for a run. This whole thing is made easier if you learn to change your lifestyle and not just being on a diet. Don't deny yourself things you like, in moderation. Good luck!0

You're a 22 year old male...you might need to eat more you only have 30 lbs to lose...check these links out and look into strength training programs - like starting strength or stronglifts - if you aren't already lifting. If you are then ignore that part. It'll definitely help with becoming a police officer.

I appreciate all the responses, thanks for all the tips everyone.0

If im going out, its easiest for me to just hit the cardio kind of hard and create a larger deficit to be safe. Otherwise i only do cardio when i feel like it and stick to lifting.0

you are a 22 year old male. you shouldn't be eating under 1400 calories. you should be eating over 2200 calories, and trying to squat your body weight.0
-
If I know i'm going out, I will try and work out more. and save few calories. AND DANCE DANCE DANCE...that helps shed while your drinking, plus I end up drinking water between songs. BUT you can maintain before or after....gotta live life0

I don't really know anything about strength training, are there any useful websites that could tell me where to go and what exercises to do?0
-
You're under eating if you're under 1400 and you're male.. what?
That said, here's how I fit in drinking:
-Eat on the low end of what I would normally have that day (so, if lunch is normally 500-600 calories, pack something more like 500 calories). This gives me about 200 cals to play with
-Save a few calories from the days before. Eating 50 cals under for 4 days is another 200 cals to play with.
-Exercise the day of the drinking. +200 cals.
Total, a little planning can give me 600 cals to play with for drinks, which is usually more than enough.0 -
In my experience and opinion if your diet and exercise is really restricting and strict you're more likely to fail. I give myself two days a week to be more relaxed on my eating regiment. I drink, have pizza if I want ( a slice not 5) without that to look forward to I think I would have already given up. I don't lose wight as fast doing that, but slow and steady I think really works in the long run. I average losing a pound a week and i drink every weekend. Hope that is helpful.0
