*fans self* Did it just get hot in here or is it me.

Also waiting for more details on this stretch thing. I don't have a lacrosse ball (who the hell plays lacrosse?) but I could probably scare up a tennis ball.

A baseball would work too. Or one of those hard rubber balls for floor hockey. Not sure about a tennis ball, they are a little softer? I think? But may still work.

The reason I posted each of those articles is to show that Crossfitters don't know what they're doing. They are have very little knowledge and training on safety, hence the high injury rates. One of my friends was hospitalized for a week with rhabdo due to Crossfit.

And no, I have never done Crossfit. I'm smart enough not to, thanks. I just saw some misinformation that could be dangerous to someone needing correct information.

So, folks, don't listen to the person who doesn't have a clue what traditional weight lifting is. Don't do Crossfit.

I never once said there wasn't a plethora of articles about it. It's popular and people like to bash whatever is popular.

But let's just take one of your links...the one on Ogar. WTF does his injury have to do with any of your claims about crossfit for beginners? In what universe does an elite-level athlete sustaining a freak injury have anything to do with...well, for that matter...anything at all? Congrats, you googled "crossfit injuries" and spewed a few of the hits. You think that proves your point?

Meh. You're not worth the time to rebut. Obviously, crossfit did something bad to you at a young age and you're bitter about it. Whatever it was, I'm sorry it happened to you...because you're obviously very hurt from the experience.

I'm reasonably certain that 95% of all lacrosse balls sold are for these rehab/mobility purposes.

Jogging is the #1 cause of pedestrian related injuries, even more accidents occurring than hit and runs on the streets of L.A.

I suggest taking up a PC based jogging simulator, such as Sim Fitness. You will get plenty of cardio from typing and have the satisfaction of the jogging "experience".*

*choose your location wisely, some of those simulated neighborhoods have griefers.

OP, I have the same strain!! I thought I was just a spaz running weird cause I'm not good at it. I have proper fit shoes & I don't think I'm doing anything I shouldn't be but who knows.

Curious how to stretch this out as well. Runs down from the top of my left hip on an inward angle but not quite down to my :embarassed: ... is that the same?

    Stretch your hip flexors.

So you're admitting that all you know about crossfit is from a friend and what you read online. But you are reasonably certain enough that crossfitters...not just *some* crossfitters, but *all* crossfitters...don't know what they're doing???

You simply have no clue what you are talking about...and generalizing your ignorance of the topic to the entire general classification of all things "crossfit".

Finally, I don't have a clue what traditional weight lifting is? Pshaw.

Seriously, are you Health_Gal? Or is Health_Gal your sister? There *has* to be a connection...because I had convinced myself that she was unique in her radical disdain for the entire concept of crossfit...and she had also admitted that she actually had zero experience with it herself and offered nothing more than anecdotes and fearmongering articles. To believe that there are actually TWO difference people who have this irrational point of view is, well, troubling.

But anyhow, how is someone figuring out their own way in a globo gym inherently superior to having experienced trainers in a crossfit gym guiding you through structured workouts? (And yes, each of the trainers in my old CF gym were remarkably experienced, both in years of hands-on experience and in certifications and training (both in and out of CF)...and ~75% of them had degrees/were working on degrees in chiropractic/physiology-related fields. I suppose their knowledge and expertise should be dismissed though because crossfit.

TL;DR - I know that me working on the oly lifts at the CF gym will be many times safer than when my bumper plates arrive and I'm doing the lifts alone in my basement.

More important TL;DR - way to derail OP's thread with your irrational fear of CF.

Definitely. And be careful, if you are wearing all green you may be mistaken for a farmer and KOS. Wear a mixture of greens, blues, and a purple piece or two to make it seem like you are new, but have some experience under your belt.

Furthermore, anyone in red is fair game.

I think crossfit is pretty neat and can potentially be a superior fitness program.

Genius! Would be what I would say if I knew what hip flexors were or how to stretch them.

    I'm too newwwbbb

(Oh good, my shift replacement is here. Man, it was quite a shift tonight in CF defense. Glad you're here. I really need to get some sleep so I can get back into the forums defending it again tomorrow. It's a tough job, but somebody has to do it.)

No kidding, I think amusing gifs have ruined it for a lot of people. That and the kipping pullups.

This kills 2 birds with one stone. Light cardio on the treadmill - plus, transportation to go get that new scale.

    stupid-workout-equipment-6.gif

I'm still trying to figure out what happens if one should start down a mighty hill? There are no brakes on that.

Have that injury checked out; it sounds as though you had something going on. You may not need to give up jogging forever.... just till you heal. See a physician/trainer to determine the best type of exercise given the injury you have sustained/

Not everyone is a runner. My husband is a runner completing several ultra marathons, boy not me lol. I have tried it and never found any joy associated with it. I have a lot of admiration for runners though.

I have always been a Jazzerciser. I like the total body one hour workouts. At least it works for me.

Definitely find something that you like to do, that's what keeps you doing it. It can be sports, a class, even yoga can be a serious workout today. Gyms offer spinning classes, etc.

Good luck to you, and I hope you heal fast.

Heart attacks are likelier to occur during exercise.
    Just vegetate, it's safer.

I swear, I go to bed for the night and my very favorite college sport gets picked on! I'll have you know I rocked that lacrosse skirt!

Ok no it doesn't have to be lacrosse ball, but I'm not sure how well a tennis ball would work. Ideally you want something roughly that size but solid. I've seen some for sale in fitness stores etc on the same aisles as the foam rollers and other massaging/stretching gear.

I realize your pain feels like it is originating in the front, but the pull is likely starting from somewhere in the behind area. You can just roll the ball directly over the muscles up front using your hand. For the back end, like I said, pin it to the wall with your butt and roll around. This is about the most awkward looking thing you can possibly do, but trust me on this, it is 100% worth it. I have sciatic issues from the piriformis muscle running through my butt and this is one of the few things that keeps it under control.

    also try out this stretch:
