Going on vacation with my fam next month for 5 days, and to be honest, I am actually thinking about not going. WHY? Because I am so scared of messing up my diet, and that I won't be able to resist all the temptations! I will be the only one dieting, so there will be high calorie snacks everywhere in the condo, does anyone else deal with this kind of anxiety? I hate not going away with my kids just because of my fears! :-/ Opinions? And hop off my topic if your'e just gonna be mean...thanks! :)

Pack up your own healthy treats.

Enjoy some of those other snacks in moderation.

Find some fun activities that will help you get some exercise in.

Relax and enjoy the time with your family. That's the most important part.

I have seen many who are in this kind of mindset...Like losing weight takes over the top priority and everything else in life seems less important or becomes a sort of obstacle...Personally I think it should be balanced...losing weight and staying healthy is important but enjoying your life with people you love is just equally important...we all need to find a fair balance...

Pretty much what she said^^^. Set your calorie goal to maintenance vs loss and enjoy this time. Then when you come back, don't step on the scale for a few days, up your water and get right back to healthy eating. I'm guessing if you are the only one dieting now that all that food is in your house already so ignore it on vacation the same as you do at home or just eat some of it.

Think of this as a dress rehearsal for your cruise next year :-) (I read your profile).

Enjoy your vacation, keep an eye on what you're eating and drinking, exercise when you can and enjoy your family!

Shoot I went away for 3 weeks in February to New Zealand and Fiji and didn't track while I was gone. For part of the time, I COULDN'T track because we were on an island with no electricity in our hut.

And yeah I gained about 2 pounds over the course of the holiday. So what? I got right back to tracking and eating right when I got home.

Life is too short. Enjoy yourself.

You definitely need to go on vacation! Your family is more important than food. :)

Staying in a condo puts you at a definite advantage since it sounds like you will be cooking most of your meals. Like others said, pack healthy food and plan treats into your day. :)

And try to do some activities that burn calories. Swim, chase your kids around, etc! Have a great time!

you are all right! Family and memories should come before food, 5 days won't kill me, and I can always take walks along the beach and swim to get exercise, thx everyone! :)

Your kids matter, spend time with them! You know a little about calories now, so just attempt to pick the better choices... or do like Dolly Parton did to lose and does to maintain... eat anything you want, but only 3 bites and then hand it off or throw it away! I agree with the others it's a special event, you will always have vacations so set your calorie goal to maintenance vs loss during this and like I said try to keep a little control over your choices but enjoy. Hopefully you can go out and walk around a lot or play in pool or something for extra exercise.

Here's a tip: Enjoy. your. vacation!

Through a few years of working on healthy eating and exercising and all that jazz, I've found that it all comes down to habit. And a lot of habits are reenforced by environment. For example, I have a tendency to eat a LOT when I'm at my mom's because that's what we always did there, which is where I picked up that bad habit in the first place. When I was in college, I started eating healthier, and so that habit was always easier to maintain when I was in that environment.

Going on a vacation doesn't have to ruin you because it's not permanent. It won't last long enough for you to undo all your hard work and the good habits you've formed. It's a few days of food and fun. So have at it! Get back to your good habits when you get home, where it will be easier for you to do so because that's what environment you've developed those habits in. Obsessing over something to the point where you deny yourself any fun is less mentally healthy than indulging now and then, and your mental health is just as important as your physical.

    Have a fantastic time!
