World Cup kickstart challenge - any takers?

Hey fellow MFPers

Would anybody be interested in joining me in a World Cup challenge? I was doing pretty well with my diet up until about a month ago after which it all fell apart, and so I am looking to regain my focus fast. As a big footie fan I reckon the beginning of the World Cup would be a good time to restart...

This isn't necessarily about losing weight although of course you can set your own personal challenges/targets to achieve within that timeframe. I want to use the tournament period to reestablish healthy eating habits; from recent experience I know that a lot can be achieved (and, alas, undone) in four weeks, so I really want to watch the final knowing that I have achieved something during that time, instead of using the impending sofa time as an excuse to indulge in mindless snacking etc.

So if you are like me and have fallen off the healthy eating wagon with a huge thud let's try and get back on in time for 13 July.

Anyone interested? If so let me know and I'll set up a group...

Cheers
RTW

    I'm in!
What with the temptation of beer and food to watch any game by a bit of a healthy distractor can't go wrong. I have really bad game times here though (China); Midnight, 3.00am and 6.00am. England's first game being 6.00 on Sunday morning and I have to work immediately after so that one is governed.

How about some challenges? never suggested this before so excuse me it its rubbish but something like....

Everytime there is a ......... you do .............

    throw in - 5 squats
    corner - 5 push ups
    foul by your team ?
    foul on your team ?
    goal for your team ?
    goal against your team ?

I dunno, is that silly? Ok at home but you;ll get berated in the pub.

    BTW - COME ON ENGLAND!!!

Hey! I think for this everyone could set their own mini targets to be achieved within the 4 weeks...personally I am just going to try to eat healthier by eliminating all sugary/starchy foods and cutting down on sodas. But as Steven has suggested we could also incorporate some mini fitness challenges into the matches we watch!

Great! I like the idea about exercises during certain moments...though I may well be eating my dinner during some matches so that might be a bit tricky lol. But I reckon it would def make watching some games more interesting. Things like yellow and red cards, offside, disallowed goals etc. hmmm, endless possibilities :)

Ha this could be cool. maybe not team specific then just by incident. Ok, ten incidents.....

    throw in - 5 squats
    corner - 5 push ups
    foul - free kick - 5 crunches
    foul - penalty - 5 star jumps
    penalty missed/saved - 5 burpees
    goal -
    goal disallowed
    offside
    yellow card
    red card

    Ran out of ideas......
  • Good start! I will have a think for the others and post them before the first match!

I'm in! I love Football and the semi-finals is the day after my birthday. I have a personal goal of reaching onder-land (199lbs) by that date too - I'm 15lbs away, so its going to be a lot of hard work.

My biggest problem is most of the England games I'll probably watch at the pub, going to be a bit hard to do Squats, push up etc there - though I can tote up what I need to do and do it the next day at the gym.

    My World Cup Goals are:

Eat healthy 7 days a week
    Train 6 days a week
Be 10K ready for final day

Hey! Great to have you on board with us :)

They sound like excellent goals, I am almost halfway through the 10k runner app so good to know someone else who is also working towards that.

I will finish the list of suggestions for the match event exercises in a separate post....I think that is a very good idea to tally them up for the gym the next day...my family have already told me outright I am not allowed to get in the way doing such things during any England games :)
  • I like these ideas!! It means I'll actually have to watch the football though boo! heh, no seriously it sounds good
  • Okay folks so how about the following as 'rules' for the challenge:

    1. Post three main aims/targets to be met by the WC Final
    2. Take part in the world cup workout challenge below for at least one half, 45 mins, of one match each day, just to avoid the temptation of sitting and snacking for too long....

    throw in - 5 squats
    corner - 5 push ups
    foul - free kick - 5 crunches
    foul - penalty - 5 star jumps
    penalty missed/saved - 5 burpees
goal - wall sit 10 seconds
goal disallowed - 5 tricep dips
    offside - glute bridge x5
yellow card - hold side plank for 5 seconds
red card - hold plank for 10 seconds

Let us just hope there aren't too many penalty shoot outs :)

Okay, good luck and enjoy the first match!!

That sounds much more fun, though I doubt I will feel so good at the final if I did that ;)

I don't think I'll be joining the official challenge because I already have a couple of others going on and have trouble juggling too much, but I will use this chart as I'm watching the games! I'm on my 4th game already today, so it's good to do something other than sit on the couch. I DID jog during one half on Thursday night, and did abs/arms during one half earlier today.

    This looks fun. Thanks.
