Too fast?

Hi, I'm a little worried that I may be losing weight too quickly. I set my weight loss goal to 1lb per week - I don't really *need* to lose a lot, so I'm not in a particular hurry to lose it. I've been having a lot of difficulties meeting the 1,580 Net Calories per day goal that MyFitnessPal set for me, because I eat as little protein as I possibly can. For the most part, I consume a lot of fruit (fresh + canned), bread, and water each day. I usually have oatmeal, grits, hotdogs, grilled cheese, and tomato soup mixed in somewhere during the week (not each day) too.

Most of the time, I'm just trying to reach the 1,200 calorie mark, since I get that warning about too few calories every time (and it makes my partner feel better about my eating habits when I do). I had a really big problem before (which is slightly returning) where I would rarely eat over 800 calories simply because I wasn't hungry or due to depression. MyFitnessPal has been a nice encouragement to eat more, since I check in every time I eat...

Now, however... I've noticed that I'm losing weight insanely fast. I was projected to lose ~4lbs/month. In 25 days, I've lost almost triple that. This worries me, a lot...

EDIT:
Adding this so that users who respond understand. Protein makes me extremely sick if I go over 20g/day or 120g/week. 120g/week is still headache inducing. Still trying to get a specific diagnosis but until I do, I'm limiting all protein for safety's sake. Note that this does not affect me immediately (aside from headaches / stomach problems). It builds in my system and the more it builds, the worse I get. Here's what I recorded of what happens when I let it get too high, so you guys understand why I won't tolerate it:

+ Headaches
+++Mild to Severe
+++ Returning
+++ Daily occurence
+++ OTC meds do not help much if at all
++++Aleve helps for up to 30m (no others help)
+++ Severe causes dizziness
+++ Present from wake to sleep

+ Nausea
+++ Leaves me feeling like vomiting most times
+++ Occurs most often after meals and/or upon waking
+++ mild to severe
+++ Most often after consuming meats (esp. fowl)

+ Crashing
+++ Becoming exhausted within 2-4 hours of waking, despite plenty of sleep
+++ Anywhere between 2-5 crashes in a single day
++++ Occurs regardless of hours slept
++++ Tested with 6, 8, 9, & 12 hours of sleep

+ Weak
+++ Physical feeling of weakness
+++ Loss of grip & strength

+ General pain
+++ Sore all over, frequently
+++ "tender" spots (more sore than most areas)
+++ Mild to severe, often at same time

    ........ because I eat as little protein as I possibly can.
    Why?
    Unless you have a medical issue that's a strange thing to do.
    This is a very informative read....

    Medical. Protein makes me scary sick. Still trying to get a diagnosis on *why* it does, but it simply does - seems to be if I go over 20g/day | 120g/week, I am basically grounded to bed. 120g/week is still headache inducing >.<

    have you tried various sources of protein?

    Most that I can think of. Some affect me more or less than others, but the general response is pretty scary. Artificial sweeteners are the absolute bane of all things good for me, with fowl-based meat a close second. (Turkey, for example, makes me sick within half an hour of consumption.) Processed foods seem to be a safer thing and what I lean on when I need some sort of protein. Soy, I've been scared to test and have avoided it due to that. Dairy milk makes me sick, cheeses do if consumed in anything above a small quantity.... so on and so forth. Peanut Butter is a bad one too, although I can have a small amount of peanuts.

    That's a tough one. Hope you get a diagnosis and resolution soon. The suggestion of trying different protein sources seems sensible (have a read up about complete and incomplete protein sources perhaps?). Worth discussing with your Doctor.

    Some fat rich / calorie dense foods would help reach your calorie goals.

    It'll be a miracle if I find a protein source that *doesn't* make me sick at this point. Half the time, I wonder if I'm overreacting so I try a new one for a week and regret ever breathing when it bites back >.<

    What's calorie-dense *without* relying on protein?

    i'm confused. per your ticker, you're trying to lose weight, yes? So, you know how to eat, and how to eat in excess. So do that, just not as much as you were before.

    re: your protein problem - although you're kind of vague as to whether you're actively working with a doctor on your quest for a diagnosis, i'll go ahead and assume you are. if my assumption is accurate, obviously discuss alternatively protein sources with him/her. and, if doc is not qualified nor educated enough on nutrition to help you out with recommendations, get a referral to a legit nutritionist.

    I actually don't know how to eat in excess. I'm trying to lose weight, yes - but I gained it by eating around 600-800 cals + sleeping 24/7. x.x

    And I was originally working with a doctor when I was in Alabama. She was... not very thorough. She ran my CMP and another few tests and then just quit looking into it altogether. The local hospital also ran a few tests. Shortly after that, I had to leave Alabama because of an abuse-at-home problem and I haven't been able to get back in to see a new doctor yet. That's why I was "kind of vague" about the doctor stuff. (Yay, isn't my life twisted?)

    Either down the high fat route - e.g. avocado, olive oil etc...
    Or down the starchy veg route - rice, pasta, potatoes.
    Or down the high sugar route - fruit for example

    k. trying to work this out here. your OP states that you are losing +12 lbs per month and struggling to eat 1200 calories/day - yet you gained all your weight eating a max of 800 calories per day. :huh:

    Yep. I slept 24/7 from depression, abuse, and being sick constantly. Ate 1-2 times a day, if that. The sole exception was when my mother brought home pizza from Little Caesar's or Burgers + Fries from McDonald's. I'd scarf that and promptly go back to sleep. It was the only way I managed calories at all in a given week, I'd say. Living away from home for almost 8 months and I pretty much survived solely on ramen noodles. Went back to my mother's because of an abusive boyfriend (before fleeing to Maryland) and wound up back in the circle of only eating when I was either forced to or when fast food was brought home.

    I've since left that situation and am living in Maryland now, with my 6 y/o Shih-Tzu. I am actually awake a lot more than I am asleep and for awhile, was succeeding in 1200 calories (and sometimes the goal 1500) from home-cooked meals prepared by my roommate (it's her house) and ice cream. Ice cream was my savior many-a-day. Since the ice cream stopped... well, no 1200 calorie goal (or 1500 calorie) most days.

    The speed of the weight loss worries me because of the fact that I've been warned that it's unhealthy on all-too-many occasions. (By my doctors, who also told me that 160-170lbs was a safe weight for my build.)

    Other posters are right, your post doesn't really make any sense and the idea that you got to 196lbs eating 600 calories a day is a bit of a reach but I will take your word for it and respond accordingly.

    Eat nutritionally dense foods. Other than the fruit, most of what you're eating is - to be frank - crap.
    Don't worry about the weight loss. Just make sure you are getting adequate nutritional value from what you consume or you will become eventually unwell.

    Would it help to explain that I was a binge eater for, oh... six years? I could go days at a time eating only 600 calories a day but occasionally (particularly pizza and taco bell), I would binge and those days (probably 2-3 times a month), I would eat far more than the 600 calories. I don't think it'll make much of a difference to explain that, since my primary diet only reached 600-800 calories on any given day and I only went above that a few times a month (able to be counted on one hand without doubling up).

    I think I'm going to definitely try to get rice into my diet more, considering it's so versatile and easy-going. My rice milk is tasty so I shouldn't have a problem eating solid rice, I think. Potatoes too; I'm a fan of potatoes. And deep-frying everything. (I spent way too much time in the south...) Michele won't let me deep-fry anything though, because it's too unhealthy. x.x

    Thank you for the explanation regarding the speed of loss. That's a relief; it really does panic me.

    So you are saying you got to 197 lbs eating 600 calories a day??? Yea ok.....

    Go to a doctor and a dietitian get help with your medical condition and start being honest with yourself

    I wouldn't post here if I was being dishonest because that would be plain silly. ;)
    If you read the comments, you'd also see "sleep 24/7, depression, and binge eating 2-3 times/month" mentioned. I missed a thing or two in the OP because I didn't believe it mattered. It still, honestly, doesn't. I got to 197 by not eating appropriately. I started losing it by increasing how much I was eating because I was in starvation mode (almost undoubtedly considering how long I went without eating enough). I also neglected to mention (because again, it didn't matter) that most of my weight existed before the two years of only eating so few calories a day.

    I must also state that I'm slightly amused with the fixation on my how I got my weight considering that's not the topic at hand - the topic is about the speed of said weight loss and whether it is safe to lose 12lbs in 4 weeks. With a pseudo-emphasis put on managing to meet the 1200 calorie goal because I have difficulties with it.
  • Did one of your doctor ever mentionned fibromyalgia to you? Also do you know what are the symptoms of dehydration?

    How tall are you? If you are 5'2, that quick weight loss is probably fine. If you are 6'2 ( or taller), not so much.
    Sorry, if I missed your height in your post. Sometimes, folks with weight to lose, lose faster at the start of the journey. Did you speak to your MD about your rate of weight loss already?

    I was tested for fibromyalgia, yes. Those were negative. (Done by both my nurse practitioner and the local hospital.) I was also told that my water intake was certainly enough, with no problems there.

    @Pairs4life,
    I am 5'5". I don't have an MD, currently. Still trying to get back on my feet after fleeing Alabama.
