Does working out burn more than just calories?

I was just running on the treadmill and I was wondering, does running (or any type of working out) burn more than just calories? Like the fats, sugars, sodium, and carbs you ate? Or does all of that turn into calories that you later burn off...? Wow I'm confusing myself now lol. Thanks for any info!

You're way over-thinking this. A calorie is just a unit of energy. When you exercise, you expend energy...energy is derived from all of those things (except sodium...you just lose that in your sweat which is why you should replace electrolytes after a hard workout).0

Basically that. Sodium doesn't have calories.0 -
Okay thanks lol, I was just wondering.0

Protein/Fats/Carbs all have different amount of "calories" per unit (if that makes it simpler for you to understand.)0 -
Burns anger, frustration, and bad ju-ju.
Completely agree with this!0 -
1 G FAT = 9 kcal
1 G CHO = 4 kcal
1 G PRO = 4kcal
1 G Alcohol = 7 kcal0 -
Actually, yes, it does, in a manner of speaking.
Exercise may do damage to the muscles, bone, etc, depending on what you are doing, how intensely, how long, etc. The body will 'burn' those molecules for energy, but they may also be used directly or broken down and converted into building blocks to repair or to build new cells.0
