I take off meat on some things I eat fast food. How to I figure those calories? Any good tips?

For example: If I order a Potato Burrito at Taco Bueno, I order it with NO meat, how to I figure out the meat calories? Right now I just take 50 calories off but I don't know if I'm right, high or low. LOL.

I know healthier options are better but I started at the first of the year and I'll have to ease into nastier tasting foods. LOL.

Thanks

great work thus far, but hmmm, nastier tasting foods. Who says you have to eat nasty tasting food? You just need to know how to prepare delicious whole foods. Stay away from fast food, but dining out at a restaurant is okay, so long as not fast food.

My suggestion to your question would be to go to their website. Now, not all websites do this, but I have found a few where they break down the dish in order to give you calorie counts? I know Panera is one of them. You can build a salad at Panera and know exactly how many cals, grams of fat, grams of carbs are in each item in that salad. An awesome tool they have. Some other places have it too.

Not being able to know this information, is reason enough for me not to frequent that establishment. We are here to make lifestyle changes, and fast food is not a part of my future. I have not stepped foot into a fast tood establishment in 4 months, and neither have my kids---and we are all not sad about it either. We are proud of our healthier lifestyle.

Ya know, in some instances, you may be better off eating the meat, and skipping the bread. The bread has so much dense carbohydrates that turn right to sugar--just something to consider.
  • I completely agree!!! If I can't look it up in MyFitnessPal and get the calorie count, I don't eat it! If its too much work to break it down piece by piece, I'll get something else. If I can use my phone to scan the bar code and adjust the serving size, I'll pass. I have decided to change my eating habits completely. This website is so amazing and it's helping me so much. Bread is the killer more so than the meat.

I take the other approach.. the long way around. I would enter everything from your meal that you actually ate into MFP as accurately as possible.

For example, we ate dinner out at a pub the other night. There's no info for a small local pub food on MFP. So I figured out my burger was like an applebess or friday's burger. So I looked up burgers with the same topping from those restuarants and used the one I thought most accurately represented the calories and size. And then the same thing for the side of fries and the drink. While not 100% accurate, it's a reasonable help and better then sticking your head in the sand.

I also would check the company's website. If that doesn't work. Literally google "taco bell salad without meat calories (or nutrition information) and see what you get. There is a LOT of calorie informaiton available out there on the web.
