Lurker finally joining the ranks!

Hi everyone! I just officially joined yesterday but have been a big fan of the site for many months. I have my diary public (scary to let strangers into my state of affairs but i need help and it seemed like the easiest way to do it).
Sometimes the posts intimidated new members as people seem very judgemental and will often make people feel inferior or ignorant (such is the way with any online venue) but hopefully I'll find more support than criticism.

A little about my particular problems and why I'm coming here: I'm 31, have a beautiful family and an amazingly supportive hubby (who is rail thin and knows very little about the challenges of eating).

I had my gallbladder removed in 2010, have a slow emptying stomach that keeps me full (and constipated) constantly, have all of the symptoms of hypothyroidism (i joined a rather quiet group with the daignosed affliction), have developed something like lactose intolerance where i cant eat much dairy anymore, and am uninsured for a few more weeks so am kind of left floundering on what to do with myself just to get through each day until i can get professional help.

I arbitrarily set my weight loss goals at 2lbs a week although through my personal past experience, i doubt ill see any change. I'd like to blame the scale for being broken as i dont believe its physically possible to gain or even maintain my weight with my current intake.

I need some advice as to how to increase my caloric intake with the inability to really get food in. I've tried juicing (out of carrots til next friday..oh yeah im broke too lol) but even liquids are filling and hard to force down on some days. I take a multivitamin, digestive enzymes, probiotics, and drink 4+ liters of water a day. I live in the beautiful nevada desert so hydration is always top priority.

I know my diet cannot sustain a person. I feel the exhaustion and muscle weakness daily. I push through it everyday to try to be the best mom and wife i can be. I dont want to be so calorie deficient but im out of ideas as to what i can do on my own.

Has anyone else had such dietary and life challenges that feel like the perfect storm for impending doom? Any advice on what i can do?

I know I'm probably going to get flamed for being stupid and not doing it right but im trying!

Thanks everyone:)

Liz

I'm new to MFP also and found the best support by searching for posts by people with similar challenges or interests to mine and sending them a friend request. Sometimes they accept, sometimes not. Always send a message explaining why you want to add them to your group of friends. I get a lot better support from my friends group than clicking around on the boards hoping to find something I can use.

You are right about the boards. Some of them can be pretty intimidating. Fortunately the really good people here outnumber the mean ones by a lot. Your question is not stupid and there are plenty of people on this site that have similar challenges that will be more than happy to help. You just need to figure out where they are hanging out.

I've also thought about using their mentor program where they hook a newbie up with a mentor to help them figure stuff out but my friend group is working pretty good so I haven't gone that route yet.

FYI... I too have a wonderful family and a rail-thin wife who does not have the faintest idea why it so hard to lose weight. She bought me a full size carrot cake for father's day and had no idea why I had such a puzzled/horrified look on my face when she gave it to me :)
  • Thank you so much for the response! Your wife sounds like an absolute gem! Just remember every grain of sugar in that cake is an expression of love..everyone needs love...so cut the cake and invite the neighbors over hehe My hubby has had to learn that flowers are the best gift i could ask for (other than just being with him of course hehe). Mostly we just honeymoon (married 12 years and still get that swoony feeling).

I havent sent out any friend requests yet. I'm not the most social person (even doing this is wayyy out of my comfort zone). I think I'll give it a while and hopefully find some that i can help as well! Feel free to add me if you'd like :) In the mean time of recruiting my support army, I'll be reading everything i can!

Thank you so much for taking the time to post :)
