What do you do on sick days?

Do you still exercise?

I feel like crap today like light headedness and a cold and sore throat but I have to go on the treadmill cause I havent had a chance to go for the past few days cause I was at work all day.

How can I get rid if the sick feeling? Do you guys exercise on sick days?

I'd say if your feeling light headed then go to bed, drink water and sleep it off, your body won't thank you for getting on the tread mill. All though if you really want to do something, get your shoes on and go out for a walk. Sometimes a little fresh air can make you feel a whole lot better, without the heavy cardio?

I completely agree. Sick days shouldn't be taken lightly. If you don't feel well, it's your body telling you that something is wrong and you need to rest. I wouldn't do anything more strenuous than a light walk, and even with that, plenty of fluids and rest before and after.

Don't push yourself. Give your body the rest it needs, and come back to exercise stronger and more determined once you're better.

    I agree with this.

I also think it depends a bit on how often you have a 'sick day'. Not to sound harsh, but I know people who are 'sick' like two or three times a week, and if they are really that ill I think they should really be under a doctor's care. :P OTOH if you're more of the type who rarely gets sick, then by all means take it easy.

I have full blown bronchitis and sinusitis, and I'm encountering a problem when trying to eat, since I'm nauseated most of the time, dizzy and full of headaches.

I know it's silly but I do feel lazy for not doing my steps or any work outs :frown:

If I just have a cold ot I'm not feeling well, I still try to get in some sort of exercise. But if you're light headed, etc., I don't think you should get on the treadmill, but maybe just go out for a walk if you feel you need to do something. Hope you feel better!

I agree with everyone. I'm not trying to eat right and work out to loose weight even though I have goals. I am doing this to give myself a healthy life style. So I plan in living like this indefinitely so if I miss occasional days becouse I'm sick or tired and don't follow my diet it's ok. As long as it's not every week like the other person said. In the big picture and all the time you have had healthy living what's a few days of taking it easy. I eat healthy and excersise but living healthy also includes giving myself rest when my body tells me to.

It depends on how you define "sick" - if I have a headache or am having and "off" day - I still do my workouts - and usually feel 100% better afterwards!

If I am actually sick - queasy, lightheaded ect., I take it easy. Make it your rest day. You never want to push yourself TOO much! If I have a cold but am not feeling too bad, I'll do some yoga since its so nice and relaxing.

Its up to your own judgement on how your body is feeling and what you can handle.

I listen to my body. I have an inner ear condition that results in random bouts of crippling vertigo, and if I don't pay attention to what's going on, I could really hurt myself. An extra workout isn't worth a serious injury.

If I'm SICK, I'm probably not eating enough to warrant a workout anyway. If I'm dealing with vertigo, I just make sure to hit my deficit and hold out till I feel better. If I'm just feeling headachey/crampy/tired/grumpy, though, I suck it up and go. I usually feel better afterward.

I force myself to sit on the couch or in bed and not exercise.

I have a really hard time not feeling guilty when I don't end up exercising in a day which is idiotic. I'm eating better than I used to and I exercise about four times a week so I just keeping telling myself that a few days won't make a different and when I'm sick, my body needs me to let it rest. Otherwise, my illness will just be dragged out because I wasn't giving myself proper relaxation time.
  • When you're really sick like that, take rest days. Your body needs to rest and rejuvenate.
