Supplements...?

Goodmorinng (or goodnight depending on where you are),

Just wondering what supplements you take and why. I'm trying to decide what to add. Obviously a multivitamin... but I'm not sure where to go from there.

A little about me: I'm 5'3", 162 LB, I want to reach 135 LB, and I am currently eating 1800-2000 calories a day and doing P90X.

Thanks :)

Supplements aren't really necessary unless you are particularly deficient in something.

This ......... A normal balanced diet should give you all you need. I take a B12 because I'm a Vegan and it's the only thing that is not readily available from a Vegan diet. However the average reasonable healthy person should not need supplements.

Yeah, most research shows that they're unncessary.

That said, I'm currently taking calcium tablets as I'm recovering from a bone fracture. And a omega oils mix, as my physio suggested it (but I'm not convinced that I'll continue once the supply is done).

I take a Womens One-A-Day just to round my diet out and cover things that might be missing. I find that it really helps my energy levels and immune system if nothing else, and as a woman making sure you get all your calcium for the day is never a bad thing. My SO also has a wimpey immune system so he takes Vitamin C and Iron. It all depends on what your body is telling you.

I take prenatals because I'm hoping to be pregnant soon and my obgyn suggested I do so. I've added some extra vit D3 and calcium to the mix. D because I just don't get enough sunlight during the day as I'm cooped up inside and calcium because I don't eat dairy as often as I should. I could tell a massive difference in mood and physical well being when I started the prenatals. Of course it could be psychosomatic, but I don't think they hurt.

At the moment I take just Spirulina, which is sort of a multi because the brand I get has a lot of other vitamins in it. And a separate Calcium + vit d. Sometimes around my period I take magnesium supplements or eat raw cacao powder for both improving mood and pms at that time of month and helping with muscle pain and recovery. The rest I just try and get from diet, I use whey to boost protein intake, chia oil to get up my fats and omega 3's, and other supplement/foods like maca or acai powder in fruit & veggie smoothies for a vitamin boost.
