Exercises helpers? Measuring HR?

I started 22 days ago in MFP and a little before dieting and doing exercise in the gym. Until this week, it was very hard for me to hold on doing the exercises. My heart would start to bit very hard and I would take it slow. Last time I did some strength exercises and I could hold on more.
Today I read people are using some fitness watches as exercise helpers, or to measure HR or to count calories. I need a new watch.
Should I consider to buy a sport watch that includes HR?
For counting calories I am not sure if I need, due to the gym equipment says how many calories I am spending.

I'm bumping this because I'm curious as to what answers you get. I don't have a HRM or fitness tracker, but have done some research. FitBit seems to be just a souped up pedometer - it doesn't really measure your calories burned. I've heard good things about the Polar series. We're on a really tight budget, so I'll have to save up for it, what ever I decide to get0

I'm very frugal, some would say cheap. I measure my workouts with a kitchen timer, pen and paper. When I go for a swim, I carry my $10 watch and a Styrofoam cup to write on. What matters is that you do the workout. Being a few calories one side or the other doesn't add up to much in the long run. But then if you have money that is just burning a whole in your pocket, buy away. {I have always felt better knowing my money was still in my pocket}0

As Larrodarro say you really dont need any.
Still I love all those small gadges.
If you want to meture heart beat and do other than exercise in a gym, it sure can be nice.
I do most of my exercise either at home or around my town up in the mountains. And find it nice that I able to see how my heart rate is, just how long I have gone, how much cal ++.
So should you buy a sports watch? If you feel it something you would like to use, yes. If not you will do just as well with out.0 -

I am also cheap to spend money. Though, I need a watch. Here there is a shop Decathlon that has Sport Watches for less than 10 Euros. http://www.decathlon.co.uk/ontime-110s-digital-watch-id_8242989.html I love the idea that I my watch can be used in the swimming poll or in the beach, or just taking a shower. I lost my previous watch and I am really into a sport watch.
Due to the acceleration of my heart, I am just wondering what those other watches will do. Though, I tend to agree with you larrodarro, and I just spend the $100 -

I would love to be doing exercises outside, like mountains or beach side. Though, as I am Portuguese and living in the Netherlands, here there is no mountains or no beach (like in Portugal) and for me here is usually very cold for me to be outside. That's why I got the gym, that's the only place I can do workout and it is only 20 Euros per month (if I go 3x a week). My gym also offers for free sauna and I love it, because I miss the warm.
Thanks for the answers. You answered my question. :flowerforyou:0 -
I use the polar chest strap with bluetooth that goes to your phone, no watch. It is $69 at Target. I am so glad I did that because I found that MFP estimated WAY to many calories on workouts for me. I love it, it works with roadbike and runtastic which both sync to MFP.0

I have a motoactiv with a HRM now and I am looking to upgrade to the moto 360 when it is released but I swear by mine. I load all my stats for weight, age and such which helps to dial in your calorie burn. I also do a lot of running so the GPS feature is nice. the advantage in my opinion is not only do I get a more accurate cal burn but seeing how i improve motivates me to do better. Just my thoughts.0
