Help plz I have no idea what to do at this point

New here & I was wondering if anyone could give me advice on how to get the body i want. Right now I weigh 193.6 lbs & I'm 6'2. I started at 275 and lost all my weight running on treadmills & eating healthy for like a year. My problem now is that I just cant seem to get a flat stomach and the last of the little fat on my chest(small man boobs...used to be wayyy worse). My BMI recommended weight is 180lbs so this is my goal. I've hit a weight plateau for quite some time. As of late my weight just fluctuates between 193-198 depending on what I eat & drink. I've never lifted weights once during my weight loss process so far but now I'm wondering if now is the time to make the last 13 lbs go away?? Do i need to just keep doing more intense cardio & eat even healthier or is weight loss the key to getting that nice slightly toned body. I'm not looking to be ripped or bulky by the way just defined or semi skinny. Thanks in advance!

Weights can help. It doesn't have to be intense, but adding the muscle helps your body, helps the metabolism, etc.
I Love cardio so weights are hard for me too, but I'm trying!!!! There are lots of great programs out there to help if you need them.

I'd say switch to maintenanace and start lifting heavy for 6 months or so to start body recomposition. See where the changes take you and look into a cut at a later date.

Definetely weightlifting, there is a lot of posts of people who lost weight with just say cardio and people at the same weight or even heavier that incorporated heavy lifting and they lifters almost always look trimmer and fitter. Dont get me wrong, cardio has a place in weight/fat loss but it shouldnt be the only tool used. I made that mistake when i first started losing, went from 380 to 300 and when i started lifting again i felt weak as a kitten.
  • So in order to avoid the bulky look with muscle & fat should Ilife light and do lots of reps 7 then cardio as well?? lol I know i'm weak as a kitten right now since I can feel it but every time i lift weight i gain weight and Its becomes difficult to see if i'm making progress since I pretty much live & die by the scale which is bad in a sense. Im interested in the "body recomposition" process however so how does that work?
    thanks!
  • When is the best time to start doing ab exercises? I have just a small chunk of flab on my stomach & don't know if cardio or abdominal exercise is the cure. Again I don't want muscle underneath fat so I've been avoiding this since they wont show until the stomach fat is gone.

no you should not lift light and do lots of reps.... read Starting Strength and look up Stronglifts. Put the scale away and use a tape measure...

View it this way.... (I am female) and I would rather look rock hard and weigh 160 than weigh 135 and look squishy....
  • I can understand your situation as my husband was in same place as you..He spent so much money after gym, personal trainers and even weight watchers. Initially he lost about 20 lbs and he hit the plateau. He is 6'1 and he was 252lbs. He was introduced to insanity by one of his coworkers. He started drinking shakeology and regular insanity workouts. He lost 42lbs just by eating healthy and adding insanity and shakeology to his diet... He loves those shakes as they are only 4 bucks a day which has plenty of protein and nutritions.

I am not a beachbody coach to promote.. but i started taking those shakes a day too.. and truthfully I love them.. they taste great and helps me feel energetic and motivated to workout..
  • I think the best time to do ab workout is in the morning empty stomach.
