Going round in circles with no results..any advice!

Hi there. I have struggled with my weight for my entire life. Weight is held fast at 14 around stone (193) and has been for 5 years since my last pregnancy. I eat clean, watch my calories at 1200-1500 at day (at the instruction of my doctor) work out 4-5 times a week. I drink 3-5 litres of waters, do hiit cardio and resistance. I have chronic ibs so every day and am on the toilet and yet my weight does not shift. My food profile is only filled in for the past few days as I have been doing a paper version for the doctor but this is really typical of my food. Nothing works. Not one ounce. I have maintained this weight (give or take fluctuations) for 5 years and no matter what I do I can't drop lb! I've gone Cambridge,.Water fast,, slimming world, literally starving and back up to eating properly over the years but still I don't get a result. By doctor is adamant that I have a deep seated psychological eating disorder that I am covering up but I am sure that I have really done everything right!? Also when I was tested for my thyroid I came back 0.07 outside of the range for overactive so that was baffling!! Any help would be great. Thank you.

with only a few days worth of entries it's hard to tell...

My question would be it appears you weigh 75% of what you eat...do you use a kitchen scale?

as well your big calorie items are logged as "servings"...are those your recipes? or did you find them in the database?

How do you calculate your burns for exercise?

Barring medical conditions (which you say you have been tested for) there is a simple answer to your question...

Calories in is higher than calories out and you are actually at maitenance calories...this happens either through over estimating burns or under estimating intake.

As well according to your ticker you have lost 7lbs...

If you don't have any medical conditions then your issue is too much food. Don't feel bad because many people don't know proper portion control or serving sizes to use when they eat.

Here is a great link that will help you get started and explain the process much better:

Sometimes I wonder if people actually READ the OPs. You know...the part where the poster states she has a medical condition...
  • Everything is measured on a digital scale or with a measuring spoon. I am Currently following The Body coach's meals and so all the recipes are set out and I work out the calories for myself.

To the gram everything I eat is weighed and goes on here now. As I say, this is how I eat but have only been logging this here and not on paper this week to see what the calories in/out looks like.

My ticker shows my fluctuation as I did explain, I go up and down is but no real weight loss long term, I remain at 13st 10 to 14st 4

I am just using my mfp for calorie burn for my info only, not eating back my exercise call as the doctor has told me to stick at 1200-1500 as they can't figure out why I get no results. As I said I am borderline over active thyroid but that should cause me to lose weight not retain so its a mystery!

What is the medical reason your doctor recommends 1200 to 1500 calories per day?

Most doctors won't randomly assume you have an eating disorder, there are usually some red flags that they pick up on before any ED talk gets thrown around. Have you asked your doctor WHY they think you might have an eating disorder?

Like others have said, assuming there is no medical condition at play here other than the IBS, if you were in a calorie deficit you would be losing weight. Whether that means your calorie goal is too high which seems highly unlikely or you're not accurately logging either not logging very consistently, not weighing everything or not logging everything you eat that has caloric value is the part you have to figure out. But from what you've stated in the thread, something just doesn't add up.

Could you get another work over from a different doctor? If you really are eating less than you're burning, you must lose weight. It's maths, like you say. If that's not happening, there's more than likely a medical reason that is being missed. Sorry it's so difficult, it sounds frustrating especially with the IBS. Have you had allergy tests? My DH thought he had IBS his whole life but at 35 I made him go for allergy tests and it turned out he was allergic to chicken which he ate a lot of. Needless to say, he's massively better now he's stopped eating it. Just a thought as IBS tends to be a catch all term for mystery tummy / bowel issues. Good luck!

Oh and what is the medical condition she mentioned in her OP?

I would keep an eye on your thyroid. Mine started out overactive, however, regular tests showed mine fluctuated dramatically. It would skyrocket for a while and then bottom out and then be somewhat normal. My weight behaved very similarly to yours. They couldn't really do anything to help due to the fluctuations but it at least eased my mind a bit that I hadn't lost my mind.
