Hello! Newly diagnosed with diabetes.

Hi, I'm Marlene. I was diagnosed with diabetes almost a month ago, and am currently on metformin to control it. I'm determined, though, to be able to control it via diet and exercise. I'm eating better, under the supervision of a registered dietitian, and exercising at my gym five days a week.

I bought myself a Fitbit yesterday and am in love with it. It's barely past eight am right now and I've already walked a mile. That never would have happened without my diagnosis and my Fitbit.

I'm already down about 9 pounds from my highest weight of 300. I'm looking to lose another 91 pounds and then reassess. I may go as low as 150 pounds, but I've been overweight my entire life. I've no idea if that's a realistic goal for myself, so going to see how things look at 200 pounds.

I'm trying to build strength as well as lose weight, I would prefer to lose fat and not lean tissue.

I'm always looking for friends to cheer me on (and me to cheer them on!). It's lovely to "meet" you all.

Jess see if you can find someplace with a BodPod to do an initial assessment on you if you are worried about lean tissue mass vs body fat and you can use every few months Bod Pods to let you know if what you are doing is getting rid of fat and building lean tissue. I call my BodPod the great equalizer. You would be surprised how many people I run the test on that assure me they have almost no body fat and get an eye opener. Good luck with your program, you can do it.

Thanks. I'll try to find one. I live near Dallas-Fort Worth, so surely there's a place around here somewhere. :)

Newly diagnosed myself! My condition is complicated by the fact that I have Multiple Sclerosis and Primary Auto-Immune Deficiency. For now the doctor just want me on low car, low sugar, low GI foods and metaformin 2x's a day. I can't start exercising just yet but I am making great strides in the diet change and my numbers are already looking much better! Good luck to you!!

hi, marlene. can we assume you were diagnosed with type 2? i'm type 2 myself, down without medication from an average of over 300 to an average of 160 in about 2 months just from diet and exercise. it definitely works.

which fitbit did you get? my husband gave me a fitbit one for my birthday a week ago.
