Treadmill and step counters

Hello

I am new to Myfitnesspal and I'm trying to work out the best way to record my treadmill runs. I do a combination of walking and running over 30 minutes on a treadmill but it won't be easy to record on here - the combination is different each time and not so simple to record as ten mins walk followed by 20 mins run for example. I've just seen that I can use my iphone to record my steps. Would this be an accurate way to record my exercise if I use that to add my run to my diary, rather than entering a run manually?

Many thanks in advance for your advice.

I wouldn't rely just on a step counter b/c you're heart rate will be higher during the run portions therefore burning more calories. I would take the total distance (as measured by the treadmill) and based on your total time figure out an average speed and record that. You could record the whole thing as walking or running at that average speed without it being too big of a difference, or record half walking and half running at that average speed.

I do interval training too I record it as 40 mins on the treadmill and then change the cals MFP gives me to the one the treadmill gives me.

The treadmill is generally lower than MFP.
