It depends on what you consider fruit salad. Some people coat it in sugar syrup or whipped cream and call it a fruit salad.

If it's just cut up fruit mixed together, go nuts. Some people find that moderating sugar intake helps with weight loss, but generally as long as your calories are in line you'll be fine.

First answer and I love it. Most of you answered the same, maybe in a different way. And yes, I was just talking about fruit. Almost all fresh fruit, except peaches that were from the can (2 halves in a big bowl - so I ate max 1 half). Let's see if I can place the pic.

Without the sugar/whipped cream, it's just a bowl of fruit

I don't like whipped cream. The bowl of fruit salad had orange choice (fresh made) and a little of the peach sauce from the can. I like it this way. I am Portuguese and some people water the fruit salad with Porto Wine, that is also nice, but usually I don't do it.

Is Fruit Salad Good For You?

When you're talking about whether something is "good" for you or "bad" for you or whatever, context and dosage are important considerations.

Speaking of fresh fruit salad, does anyone know how much the average fresh fruit salad (pineapple, strawberry, melon, etc.) is per cup? Some people say 60 and some say 200! I'm not sure what to go with for a solid average...

If you can I'd just measure out the ounces of each fruit and go from there its the only way I know to accurately get the right calories.

    Fruit salad? Oh yeah!

    My kind of salad!

OP, just read the label if you're buying commercially prepared stuff, go for brands that use fruit juice rather than syrup or (even better) buy fresh fruit and make your own, especially when you can get locally grown fruits in season.

Since you bumped an old thread, most people are going to respond to the OP and miss your question completely. Unfortunately, the only way to know for sure how many calories are in your fruit salad would be to measure each type of fruit individually and log it all into MFP to see what it adds up to. If you're making it at home that might be possible, but if you're purchasing something ready made that's harder to do. I generally select something like a "fruit cup" or "mixed fruit" when I'm traveling and need to log something and just want a best guess of the calories. Fruit salads often have dressings or other high calorie items mixed in, so choosing to use a different search terms gets me something closer to what I'm actually eating. It's always going to be a best guess, though.

If you are not a diabetic, then sugar is not an issue. Many of us don't even track our sugar or sodium intake.

Thank you! I've been so good at tracking everything I eat and I get so frustrated when its time and I track my afternoon snack and I'm already way over my sugar goal but ending every day at about 1150 calories and everything else looks so good.
