Some people look worse after significant weight loss. They look older, more wrinkled, more fragile. Exercise doesn't seem to help.

Proper weight loss with protein and training should allow ample time for the skin to get used to the new you.
Be sure you hit all macro and micronutrients.
Hit the weights 3 times a week.

Possibly you need a small bulk till march then another cut to fill in?

I'm 42 and in each new avatar I look younger. My skin is healthier looking and the darkness under my eyes is almost gone. I drink a ton of water, moisture the f' out of my skin, and eat as healthy as I can while still indulging just enough that I don't go lose it.

That said if I noticed I'm looking older I will take it over not being able to walk without being in pain. Looking old and being active vs looking young and being housebound. Easy decision.

    I'm turning 42 on Thursday...

no one ever thinks I'm that age, I think attitude has a lot to do with it as well. I take a multivitamin to make sure I get my nutrients, and I'm losing slowly which I think helps. I guess we will see when the journey is over.

but either way, my attitude will not change, and i will be the same inside, just a lot healthier:) yay for healthy.

I've noticed this with some people who I see in person. One was health reasons and the other was someone who went on an extreme diet. So I do think for some people this is definitely true.

I'm 42 and lost 2 stone since June, I think you can see it in my neck, but I'm hoping that will fill out a bit now I'm maintaining again just for xmas. I have dropped from size 20 to 16, sometimes can even get in 14-16! .. and I am much fitter, more energy and feel better in general.

I do wish I could just get tummy to shrink more on its own without the rest of me looking any thinner though!!!.. so might have to put up with a 'little tummy', if I don't want my face to get any thinner!

I was originally aiming for 9st 3 like my Wii said I should be but I don't want to look 'ill' either if I get too thin. I would like to be under 10st when I have to get on a scale though! (more for vanity and not been embarrassed about my weight than anything else).

I may look older when I reach goal weight, but I am already feeling younger. Maybe some juverderm injections will be in order!

I feel like I look older now that I've dropped weight. But I might be crazy. I'm only 24, People assume I'm 29 ish.

i know a lot of people on this site say things to others just to to make them feel good but i honestly believe you look way closer to 24 than 29.
  • It is certainly true however I believe there are 3 main factors in play that determine if a dieter has "aged" after losing weight. I'll describe them below:

    1) The type of diet - Some diets especially those that severely restrict calories will often stress the body and the mind thus creating the aged look

    2) The type of exercise - High impact exercise or those designed to drain the body of glycogen can create high levels of stress thus creating the aged look.

    3) Time management - Trying to lose weight often takes time, be it to exercise or to cook your own meals. This extra time can sometimes be ill managed and also creates stress

Ultimately its is about stress. You can't stress your body too much without looking aged.

    Cheers.

some people look worse in the daylight than in the dark.
  • They say that after about 45, women tend to look older. But, that's just because plump is a younger look in general. Personally, I don't care. I'm healthier, and that's the goal. People who don't like the way I look simply don't have to look.

Yes. You said it better, Plumper looks healthier. It's not women. it's men too. Last weeks' Biggest Loser episode had a gret example. Jerry I think. He lots lots of weight but looked a LOT older.

So, will you still be participating on MFP?
oh please stop :/ she/he was just stating thier opinion (which some ppl have agreed with). No big deal

Now this I agree with haha!

Let me see, so it's a choice with being fat, unhappy, young looking on the outside but old old and killing myself on the inside or thin, healthy and looking my age.

I think I know which one I chose.

My brother-in-law just turned 60, and lost a bunch of weight (he wasn't someone you would think of as fat in the first place, but maybe was carrying a few extra pounds). When I saw him, I was surprised at how much older he looked. He previously had this boyish face, but now looks gaunt and grayish. I wondered whether he was sick, but found out he had been dieting. He really looked like he'd aged about 15-20 years. He definitely looks worse now.

You fix this my lifting heavy weights and putting back on some of the muscle you more than likely lost along with the fat.

I will be 43 at the end of this month, I've lost 38 lbs. Last month I was at a party with my husband (who is a year younger than me) and some people thought I was his daughter. So, I don't think it is an issue for everyone.

So funny. It's true for me.

Before I started losing I had just the beginnings of crows feet. The more I lose, the more pronounced those lines on my face are getting.

The fat did puff my face out enough to prevent any serious wrinkles and I did look much, much younger than everyone my age. That's changing now.

But I'd rather look like the middle-aged woman I am than carry all that fat around. I think I look better, too. Older, but better. Friends say yes, boyfriend refuses to say he thinks so, but I think he does, :)

Have to see when I'm done how it all turns out. :)

Putting on some muscle can solve that problem, also you could try some botox it's what celebrities do.

I think what happens, happens. I KNOW I will be healthier after losing weight, and that is what is most important to me.

    True that

as fat is leaving my face, i DO look slightly more wrinkled, but i'm trading that in for better health and fitness and more strength.
