Setting a goal weight

How do you all do this? I weigh 184.8 as of this morning and I'm a little under 5 foot 4 inches. I know for my body, I start feeling better in the 140s but should I "stop" there or continue to a healthier BMI range in the 120s? I am almost 30 years old and 120 seems small for me but I'm trying to decide how to get a goal number in mind. I know that I can always reassess, and I'm sure I will, but for me it helps to have a goal, a specific number, in mind.

How did you come up with yours?

BMI means very little to me. I'm more about body fat percentage and measurements. What weight I am specifically doesn't matter, as long as my body fat percentage goes lower.

My goal weight was based on what weight I would be at my target body fat percentage, without losing any of the current muscle I have.

I would set it for 140 then see how you feel about your body after. I'm 5'6" and my goal right now is 145, then when I hit that I'll decide if I want to go any lower.

I'm 5'6", and my initial goal is 155-160. I'll see what I look like when I get there, and adjust accordingly.

I set something in the middle of my BMI range, but will reassess when I get closer. I've always been overweight and have no clue what I'll look like or feel like at different weights in the healthy range. I care more about what I'll look like, body fat, and performance than I do about actual number. But these things are hard to assess while I'm so far away, so using BMI is what I did for now.

I'm 5' 2" and currently about 202... When I first started, I was close to 250, so my "first" goal was to get under 200 by my birthday (which is next month, so I'm pretty sure I'll hit my first goal)...

Once I got to my first goal of under 200, then I figured my next goal would be to get under 150.... Then I'd go from there...

I feel like if I started out shooting for 130 (or whatever), it'd be too big of a goal, and it'd take too long, that it'd be discouraging... So I'm going with smaller goals (granted, first goal is taking 7 months, but still, that's better than 2 years)... So I'll be super happy when I hit my first goal, and hopefully that will encourage me to hit my next goal (cuz if my first goal was around 50 pounds, I'll be encouraged that I can hit another 50 in a somewhat similar amount of time)...

I'm not shooting for a specific "they say I should be this weight at this height" type of ultimate goal... I'm going with "reasonable" and "I'm happy with it" goals...

This is how I set my goal also. I am 5'4" goal for me is 131lbs plus or minus 3. Started at 179 lbs current is 156lbs. At 135-139 I plan to reassess, if I am happy I will keep my goal, if I can be smaller than 130 I may aim for 121-125lbs. My standard weight my whole adult life was 135lbs +/- 3, lower 120's do not look good on me in the past.

I'm 5'6". My goal right now is 150, which is 5 pounds from the top of the healthy range for my height and if I keep losing fat at the same rate should be around 25% body fat. I'm really happy with my body right now EXCEPT for my abdominal fat. I'm hoping that will shrink significantly as I lose the next 11 pounds but we'll see. If I'm not happy with it at that point, I'll keep going.
