How do you deal during Summer break? It's my first day with the kids since they finished school (hubby was off the last two weeks) and I'm already losing it! Harder to find time to work out (have to go to the gym, pretty much, thankfully they have babysitting, but I'm also trying to do a beachbody program and it's going to be a hassle because I still don't trust them alone for 30 minutes and my workout room is upstairs), heat making it too hard to do much outside, them asking for snacks every 2 minutes... Tried setting playdates and never heard back, and waiting for the gym to call back to schedule swim lesson. They have one camp in 2 weeks for 3 hours for a week... but that's it.
Ugh...
Ugh...

How old and how many kids?0

I have a 3 year old and a 1 year old. Feel your pain. On nice days, I take walks, I lift typically at night when the kids are asleep or sometimes fate hands me a double nap! Sometimes, I'd turn on the music and we'd just dance to have fun. Mostly, I try to do it early morning or late evening when they aren't awake but I'm not much ofa morning person xD0

6yo twins. They play together a lot so it's great, but also double the trouble at times (that's improved a lot in one year though).0

I have a 6 year old and a 2 year old. I feel your frustration. We do family walks or bike rides in the evening after dinner when it's a bit cooler. I also set up a Kidde pool in the front yard and let the kids play while I workout in the garage some.0

Can they be trusted to watch a movie or show in their bedroom for half an hour or 45 minutes? I'm assuming their bedroom is upstairs, also. Maybe a promise of going to the park or playing a game with you would help motivate them to behave for that sorry period of time so you can crank out a short workout.0

I'm going to have to resort to letting them watch TV while I workout if I can't fit it in the morning before hubby leaves for work, yeah. Not really my favorite thing but it's the only way I know they won't get in trouble. He only gets home at dinner time pretty much and I hate working out on a full stomach, so I'd rather avoid doing it at night. I'll still try and get up at 7am to do it though...0 -
I usually get up at six to jog but as it's the holidays and I don't need to be showered and feed myself and 4 & 3 year old before nursery, I can go at 7. I have been finding it easier to fit workouts in as I am not running about picking them up. We have been walking dog over a mile together. I still need to take the dog a proper walk later at night. Going to the park, running about a lot. Doing kids yoga together. Tire them out in morning and early afternoon and get a workout in before dinner. I try to just fit bits in anywhere I can. Good luck.0

I have to give you guys who are losing weight with young children so much credit! I know if I had wanted to I could have made my health and fitness a priority, I am in no way blaming my children, but wow... it's just so difficult... Of course, I did have 4 boys pretty close in age which is a bit more than you guys but honestly as soon as you have 2 children, all bets are off. You struggle to stay on top of everything! With 4 boys, imagine throwing a birthday party and inviting kids over... every... day... ... All the love and giggles were wonderful :smooched: ... the laundry and dishes and all the things they tracked into the house... not so much :noway: ... I felt like I was never ever "caught up" when they were younger. Now, they range from 15 to 21yrs old and I still wasn't able to fit in enough "me time", mentally, last September when I first joined MFP...I gave up :frown: , which sucks because giving up feels worse than not trying  ... to me it did anyway :frown: Since then, 2 have moved out on their own, which makes a surprising difference... Older boys are still just as messy as younger boys :grumble:
But don't give up... seriously... It seems like all of you are making it work... I wish I had made time for me then, made it just as much a priority as dinner and dishes and doctor's appts... I was still fairly active with my children because I was young when they were young... but when I think of what I could have enjoyed with them... sigh... hindsight...
Take it from me... Make time for yourself... figure out something... it's worth it... I know you guys who still have small children probably feel guilt sometimes about making things a priority for yourself... I know I did... It's so much BS!... The boys would not ever have felt resentment for me taking time to better my health... in fact, now that they're older, they get so excited when I do any little thing for myself! They loved to hear that I was trying to lose weight/get healthier... The 2 that are still here randomly open my door while I'm riding the stationary bike, and start singing, "Oh yeah! Momma's going to town on that stationary bike! Kickin' them calories! Aw yeah!" :blushing: Of course I yell, "Go find something to do little turkey!" but I love it and it's inspiring... lol
So find time! ... get them to do zumba with you or some other fun music filled cardio workout... they'll love it! Or find something that will occupy them while keeping them close enough to you to be safe! Just don't let yourself think that your health is worth any less than all the other things you do for your children... A happy healthy mother is just as important!0
