Thinking about food ALL THE TIME

Is anyone focused on food all the time? I'm counting calories on everything I pass, and constantly figuring what I just had, what I'm going to have, when I'll eat after that, and what I'll have for dinner. When I was living like my normal, fat self, I never put a thought towards what I was eating or what I'd eat later. I just knew it would happen, and it would taste good.

Now, I'm obsessed. And it makes me hungry. I know I'm not hungry -- I don't need the fuel, I'm still satisfied from the last time I ate. But I think about it...and it makes me want food.

Is anyone else feeling this? I'm ready to start working out double so I can have more calories and eat more food. That doesn't make any sense does it?

    I find that if I plan out what I am going to eat the night before and make a list it helps me with this, because it is already set so I don't have to think about it so much and when I do think about it, I say to myself, "It is already planned out, think about something else." Seems to help me a little bit.

    I'm the same way! I think about food constantly! It is amazing how much more I think about it now that I'm trying to watch what I eat compared to when I didn't. Hopefully though, it'll get easier the longer I am on my eating plan and maybe I won't think about food as much.

    My husband is the same way but he has always been obcessed with what is his next meal going to be even while he is consuming a current one.

    I am thinking more about food since signing up at myfitnesspal but I am the cook and cooking more healthy takes a lot more planning.

    i am the same way, sometimes i think i am a food addict, it is always on my mind. i try to focus on other things but it is really hard. just keep going dont give up

    i do exactly the same thing, whenever im on a diet i feel like all i can think about is food. I try to plan what i will have later and at what time and in the time inbetween i do my uni work or go for a walk or something to take my mind off it. Keeping your mind active on other things should help

    Yes I do and now that i'm trying to do better I have been hungry all day.
    I also plan my meals the night before and it has helped me.

    I think it always feels this way when you're new to counting cals and watching what you eat. Once it becomes more routine it gets easier, hang in there! I actually just choose a few meals and rotate them throughout the week. That way I'm not obsessed with what I'm going to have. I know there's just a couple options for each meal.

    I am hungry all the time and I don't even have a big deficit (.5 lbs/wk). I constantly think about food. I actually don't chastise myself for this but I don't give in either--I actually look at food porn on the internet: www.tastespotting.com. Mostly bad stuff but occasionally I find a healthy recipe on there. Fantasizing about cupcakes is not as good as eating them but if I'm going to be thinking about food it might as well be good food lol.

    I think about food all the time too (even when I KNOW I'm not hungry)! I try to drink water. It's hard though. Sometimes I feel like I just HAVE to eat something...so I have one of those 100 calories snacks (but I must admit that sometimes I have 3 or 4 of those 100 calories snacks...which defeats the purpose...lol). I'm just hoping it will get better :-[

    I think about food all the time and try to figure out better choices for my next meal. I think it is normal....until we get to where we want to be weight or health wise, I think it will rule our lives for a bit..... good luck.

    I do the same thing too! I try not to think about it so hard, and just get a glass of water. Now that I've been watching what I eat, I feel like I have to pay close attention to what I eat so I don't ruin my diet. But I'm pretty sure once we get used to eating right, it won't feel that way anymore.

    I'm the same way. I just can't help it. I think about what I'm going to eat next, how many calories that'll leave me with, what can I spend those calories on, how much food will I get outta that, etc... I'm constantly hungry too. For me, I think it's the beginning of an eating disorder... as I've once gotten so obsessed over tracking sugar and sodium, I stopped eating. Hang in there though. Maybe it's just because you're just starting out, and it'll all work itself out later on. Hopefully! Because it is ruling my life, and I hate that.

    I had this problem too but then I took 10 minutes everynight and planned my food for the next day. It worked for me. Good luck

    I find planning what I eat the night before helps me not obsess as much. For those of you who are constantly hungry, you might want to try this. Have healthy snacks available in abundance and learn to nibble (provided this is possible with work/school restrictions). For example, I start munching on lunch by around 10am. I pack things like carrots, cut up fruits, edamame, rice crackers, almonds, dry cereal... food that come in little bits that are like snacks. You also notice that they are reasonably balanced in sugars, carbs, protein and fiber. And then I just slowly munch them until about 2pm with plenty of water as you go along. I find that I get pretty full like that and I get to satisfy my desire to graze on food. And since I'm a grad student, this also allows me to eat lunch at my desk while getting lots of work done and to not have to spend money buying prepared lunch. Although I do find that eating healthy costs more than eating cheap/free crap (good bye free pizza, grad student staple!).
