i make my porridge with water and i always mix it with peanut butter which is really nice but i fancy a bit of a change....

i don't eat things like flax seeds or sunflower seeds or seeds.
also i had read skin peanuts in porridge once but it wasn't very nice cause it was like oats smooth with unexpected balls of deadly choking hazard ;)

any ideas? :)

Oats prepared overnight in a crockpot for the best texture, then stir in a tablespoon of Justin's Maple (or vanilla) almond butter and breakfast is pretty much a dessert I can feel good about.

I make rice pudding with egg and coconut milk--not the canned stuff, but the milk-substitute stuff. Add a little vanilla and coconut extract for extra sweetness without sugar. Yummy with fresh peaches.

< Grew up on a Filipino rice porridge known as champurado. Starts with warm sticky rice, add cocoa powder or melted chocolate nibs (dark chocolate even better), add regular or coconut milk, sweeten with sugar, garnish with ground nuts or shredded coconut.

My mom used to make a baked rice dish with eggs, milk, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and rice that had been cooked. Also raisins . Baked it and cut in squares. Wonderful for breakfast....

OMG! The first thing listed is "Apple Baked Oatmeal with Espresso Almond Butter Frosting!" Oh, dear. Who knew oatmeal could be food porn?

This may sound weird, but try with different varieties of yogurt.

If I can be bothered saving it, chocolate is really nice in porridge I find.

i will have to try raisins and spice like nutmeg and cinnamon but im trying to stay away from too much sugar so honey and brown sugar isn't going to work but almond butter sounds new plus almond flakes...

does any one know what i could put with ginger?

I always have porridge for breakfast but recently I've become a convert to overnight oats. There are heaps of recipes online but I usually just have rolled oats, yoghurt, milk, banana and blueberries. Just delicious.
  • I'll add a tablespoon of jam - so many possibilities and it adds sweetness and a dose of fruit. :)

Toast the oats, then have them uncooked with greek yoghurt and berries. No need to add anything to sweeten.

well I have an odd combo that I make..... this makes enough for a week, then reheat daily..
first simmer a handful of red river cereal in your water for 5 min, then add your oats ( 4 servings worth) then throw in a stick of cinnamon or a tsp, with a spoonful of brown sugar ( spread over 4 days not too bad), and chop up a large apple ( cored but not peeled) and cook til at desired consistency...... yummy and great for fibre.
I know you said you didn't like seeds so leave out the red river if you like.
