An upcoming week at an all-inclusive resort!

I am looking forward to a week at an all-inclusive (food and drinks) resort in mid-February. We always choose this resort because the food and drinks are superb, and of course, the beach and pool are the VERY BEST, too! Usually I have good intentions at the beginning, but after a day, those intentions are right out the window. I would be fooling myself if i think that will not happen again, so i am trying to devise a plan that will help to focus me, at least a little, on healthy exercise and consumption of drinks and food while there. One thing I thought of is getting to the gym every, single day, and doing aerobic activity EVERY day, and my weight program every other day. At the buffet meals I thought of starting each with a full plate of exciting veggies and fruits; then when i go back for more, I will at least have had my appetite slightly saited! I would love to hear strategies that other members have found useful when faced with this "problem" of a week at a resort!

  • I think you pretty much covered it. Fill up on veggies and fruit and then make sure you either walk or use their gym equipment. If they have an Elliptical try using that it burns alot of calories with not much strain on your joints. For example a 30 min workout will burn 337 calories and that could really help you.

That's so hard to control when all of the food and drinks you want are around, all the time. I would say that when you begin to feel full, leave the dining hall, even if you just want a "taste" of this or that. Think that you have a full week there and you will get a chance to taste something diff on another day. working out each day is a great idea, and you should also try to keep yourself busy with other activities, etc. Call a supportive friend when you feel like saying hell with it all.

All that being said, don't be as strict as you are when you are home since you will only have a week and you want to relax and enjoy yourself.

    Have fun!!

Or try eating all the yummy veggies (hopefully not drowning in butter or cream sauces) and micro-portions of a selection of other lovely goodies? The sort of thumb-sized samples that gourmet restaurants tend towards - I had a "gourment" sloppy joe at a Christmas dinner party at a fancypants restaurant, and that sandwich was HALF the size of my thumb. I kid you not.

Honestly though, if it were me, I'd focus on making healthy food choices (avoid mega salt, sugar and fat) and enjoy the place, food and all. And use it to refocus myself later. Sometimes I've actually lost weight faster after experiences like that. The key is to get back on track after the vacation.

This is very helpful. I am treadmilling and biking for aerobic activity at the fitness centre here, but have been eyeing the elliptical and will definitely get onto it on Monday and give it a try. It sounds as if it burns more calories than even the treadmill! I would imagine the gym at the resort will have an elliptical as it is supposed to be very well-equipped. Thanks for this great suggestioon! How are you doing with this great program? Where do you live?

Thanks Liatush. Great ideas and i will print them out and take them with me and stick them up on the bathroom mirror! I am pretty forgiving and don't expect to be perfect! But even if I am only good some of the time, that is better than the twice before when i went and was BAAAAAD ALL of the time!!!!:)
