Struggling

Hey there!
So I lost 30 lbs since the beginning of the year and I am extremely proud - as I should be. I am not far from 165 lbs, which is a new weight loss goal for me. But every time I am near such a goal, I start binge eating and getting off track. I feel like I have lost all my willpower and to lose those few pounds feels almost impossible. Instead of working on it I eat more and more and the more I eat, the more I feel guilty. It's a trap. My friends tell me not to stress myself that much and I am sure they are right - but it is so hard right now.
I don't want to whine anymore, I want to get back on track and make this thing work again. You are a great community - any tips for me?

I am not sure if you have health insurance, but I think you need to work on the mental aspects of weight loss. Find a good therapist who can help you get past this or join your local Overeaters Anonymous group. You definitely need mental support right now. We'll do what we can to help but none of us are licensed therapists, just sympathetic ears who know exactly what you are going through.

I'm sort of in the same boat as you. I lost about 17# but I haven't seen a loss in a few months. It just weighs on you. You work so hard and you put so much into it, it just gets old. I would start with something small. Right now I'm just trying not to go over what I burn. I figure, so what if I don't lose, at least I won't gain. I still work out everyday no matter what. Other days, I'll try to stay lower on my calories to make up for higher days. You know... days you're not really hungry or days you're feeling better and you can stick to it. Maybe you're restricting your diet too much and you need to let some things back in. For instance, I was cutting carbs WAYYY down to almost none... it was too hard to maintain so I've let myself put some carbs back in here and there. It helps. Just take it day by day. Maybe your goal is too low to sustain... try adding another 100cals maybe?

Good luck! Just hang in there... we've all been there. Remember... if you don't gain you're winning! :)

    Hello there,

Here is a google talk about will power kind of long but could be helpful.

Also maybe you are too aggressive in cutting calories and that's why your body is fighting the weight loss, maybe only try removing 50 calories a day from your food per week?
example if you eat 1500 cals per day. next week only eat 1450 and track your progress.

You could also try shifting more of your calories to be from protein. There are multiple reports indicating higher protein consumption should help in weight loss as long as calories are still taken into account.

    Good Luck =)

Although I have been committed to the gym for 10 years it wasn't until the past 2 that I finally got a grasp on my eating and hit a weight that I look and feel good at and maintain. My biggest problems were two things- 1) thinking that food would fix something. food is not love. it is a thing and nothing more. 2) who cares what will happen tomorrow. you have to eat for today and not eat today thinking about tomorrow.
I always used to treat problems with food.
ex) my boyfriends an *kitten* = 1 problem
binge eat because my boyfriends an *kitten* = 2 problems
eat more because I already screwed up so what's the point = 3 problems
    See what happens there?
When I learned to just take today for what it is worth (just 24 hours! that's it!) and deal with tomorrow when it came, I experienced much greater success. Believe you can do it!
