YES I HAVE AND ITS FEELS GREAT ! ! !!
I do an all raw fruit and veggie detox (for lack of better words) and I HAVE YET TO NOT FEEL BETTER BY DAY 2 ... and OMG the water weight that comes off ... I urinate about 9 times in a 10 hr shift.

I also do lemon water during this time ... I just finished one .. yet this time I did incorporate chicken breat and a lil salad dressing ... (STILL FELT GOOD) ... Its not about a quick fad , its just that we were designed to eat off the LAND ... Think about it this way ...

WE ARE THE ONLY ANIMALS THAT HAVE TO COOK THEIR MEAT BEFORE THEY CONSUME IT ... WHY??? B/C WE WERE NOT DESIGNED TO EAT THEM ANYWAY ...
Ok, let me know get biblical (God forbid, I have MFPals hitting me from every angle) ...

ALSO, I do eat lots of nuts, coconut, and olive oil ... So Im getting a little protein and some good fats.

I even did black beans in my salad this past time.

I do it about once every couple of months! Look at my pics, you will see what I eat during those times.
I know some things are MIND OVER MATTER ... and if you think it, it is ... and that a persons perception becomes their reality ... all those good things ...

BUT , all I know is ... I go from sluggish to BURSTING with energy when I eat all natural.

So you ask, why don't I do this long term, ONLY B/C it gets boring after awhile and I still have a LOVE affair with food ... So, I want an occasion sweet potato, some cheese, a bag of corn chips, some brown rice, etc ... So I end up going back to cooked foods.

All Im saying is ... IT WON'T hurt ya ... Try if for a few days ( I always do at least 3 at a time ) ... stay close to a bathroom b/c you are going to urinate your butt off ...

Inbox me when you're done and tell me how you feel and how much water weight you've lost ... NOW yes you will gain some of it back, especially if you go right back to eating processed foods, etc but I usually lose from 5 - 8 and I keep off about 2-3.

I don't do it for the lost, I do it because your body needs to RELAX ... processed foods as well as MEATS are harsh on your body and hard to digest ... eating natural, fruits/veggies/nuts is they way to go!
    Why are you yelling?

Back in the day planes didn't exist. So we were not meant to fly right? Are you against getting on a plane?
Are you against watching TV or making a phone call?
How about toilet paper? Should we use leaves?

Don't let my caps offend you!! Im excited not yelling dear, BESIDES, Im only telling you that humans don't have to have meat to survive... I grew up vegetarian and most of my family and have NEVER suffered from Iron, B vitamins defecits etc .
And if want to use leaves, be my guess... (advancements in technology really doesn't fit my msg) ... Do you know that you're not suppose to mix alkalines and acids when eating ? because they turn to poison in your stomach and intestines? ALTHOUGH nutrionists tell you to eat from all food groups at each or MOST meals ... BUT its been determined by Chemists in a lab (thats were I learned this from {organic chemistry}) you do not mix them together ... Thats carbs and meats ... they shouldn't be consumed at the same time.
Listen, we can go around and around ... all Im saying is .. eating natural can be done and you will feel good... UNLESS you have some other issues like IBS, etc .
    Have a good day!

I've been a vegetarian for 24 years. Yes, maybe you don't need meat to survive, however, some people actually do. I have a friend who turned vegetarian and developed an allergy to beans. My nephew is allergic to anything everything soy and nut related. So if he can't eat soy/nuts/tempeh/etc...what would you recommend he eat for protein? He's 17 and needs a lot of food. Don't say protein shakes either, the boy likes to chew his food.

I and lots of vegetarians actually do have/develop iron deficiencies so we may need supplements. It's awesome that you don't, but that's not the case for everyone...

Also, really, meat & carbs together turn into poison in the stomach and intestines??? Why has no one contacted poison control about this? Why are people not in the hospital all day every day from this very thing?!?!?!

My vegetarian diet contributed immensely to my anemia and I was basically told by my doctor to knock that sh*$ off or continue to suffer. After adding back in protein in the form of lean meats (usually white meat like chicken) and fish, I was much better off. I still do as much as possible not to contribute to excessive animal cruelty (animal testing, brands that are known for cruel raising/slaughtering, etc), but a vegetarian diet plan is not a feasible option for me.

Also, if I'm supposed to believe what you're claiming was discovered by "a chemist" in "a lab," I'm going to need some concrete proof. Which chemist, what lab? Is there somewhere I can read his/her lab notes or the final write-up?

(Not arguing the point above, merely adding anecdotal evidence)

I used to be a vegetarian. I now have a condition called pernicious anemia, or the inability to absorb b12, which is very dangerous. Most people don't know how essential b12 is to our basic functions. Low levels of b12 can cause weakness, fatigue, bruising/bleeding more easily, tingling and numbness in extremities, cramping, depression, hallucinations/paranoia, confusion, difficulty making decisions/thinking, jaundice, balance problems.

Only meat, fish and dairy products contain b12 naturally, there is no way to get it from plants (unless they are fortified). Which for me, makes me wonder "how do they get b12 in pill form, is it vegetarian?" I don't have time to research this right now, but I'm curious.

They do have vegetarian B12 pills, also some soy milks have it in them. Nutritional yeast, some cereals.

    @ohaston--

I find the "we're the only animals that . . ." argument in this thread just as silly as when it shows up in milk threads. Just because we're the only ones to do something, that doesn't mean that it shouldn't be done. We're also the only animals who drive and use computers.

Also the fact that you can't stick to this "diet" is a testament to the fact that it isn't sustainable long term.

Our brain power really is not part of the discussion ( our digestive track, macros , etc seems to be ) and animals have been trained to use computers (google it) ... and I don't stick to it because I don't have a desire to.... I LIKE to eat other foods as well ... I've never got into an argument on MFP and I won't start now ... don't know anything about "milk threads" AND I don't call people silly ... neither of us (from the looks of it) are any specialists in any of these areas ... we are common ppl, for the most part, trying to be healthy, lose weight, get advise, and motivation. At least, thats why Im here!.
    Have a good day ladybug!

Saying an argument is silly =/= calling you silly.

Silly is ok LOL .. I've been called worst!

    I can imagine.

I do that constantly too, mostly because I'd rather have people just eat the d@mn meat than eat an incredibly unbalanced "vegetarian" diet for 6 months, get sick, and then come back yelling about how unhealthy vegetarianism is.

I tried to find the link to how vegan certified B-12 is produced, but it's not apparently on the products that I remember it being on. But the short answer is that B-12 is created from bacteria, not plants or animals. (Animals convert the bacteria they consume well into usable B-12 while humans don't so much.) I believe that the B-12 created for vegan use is grown on molasses. There has been some argument that this type is not well-absorbed. I can only offer personal anecdotes for that, but my blood was recently tested and I asked for B-12 levels due to my vegan diet. I was at twice the high end of the limit that a person should have. I only remember to take my multivitamin about half the time.

    @ the OP,

Sorry you stepped on a land mine :) "Cleanse" is an unfortunate word choice (not your fault, you didn't know... welcome to the forums). Link cleanse to "veggie" and... well...

To address your original question, it's not going to hurt to eat a diet of mostly fruits and veggies for a short while, but you will (as others have said) need more nutrition than fruit and veggies can provide. You do need protein (sea-food works), and a carb source is helpful (though not mandatory) for optimal body function.

    Good luck with your journey!

What the actual....? Um organic chemistry has nothing to do with what you're eating or how it'd digested in your body. No you don't mix acids and bases, but that's in a lab, not the human body lol. alkaline and acidic foods have pretty much no impact on the ph of the human body. And not to mention, as a diabetic, I've been told (by registered dieticians that have degrees in food nutrition and food makeup) that combining a protein source (ie meat) with carbs will stabilize your blood sugars better.
