Compliments... what have you been told?

I've lost 42lbs and I haven't received a single compliment :grumble:
You are awesome--keep up the good work!
Now you have 1.0 -
I haven't gotten any compliments this time around, but when I'd lost 75 lbs in 2012, my favorite was from my boss' boss' boss. He stopped me in the hall one day to congratulate me on my weight loss and then sort of stopped himself and had to check and make sure that I was losing intentionally and not sick or anything. I don't know why, but the fact that it was so significant a loss that he had to make sure made me laugh.
I always struggle with giving out compliments to anyone other than family. As a married guy, I certainly don't want my compliments to other women to be interpreted as something more than they are. The flip side to that is something I've seen referenced here and in the other thread. Sometimes complimenting weight loss can be interpreted as "you thought I looked bad before?"0 -
When I was out jogging last night, some teenaged boys whistled and asked for my number. I'll be 41 next week0

I have received so many compliments at my local YMCA every time I come in I feel like I am the poster child for weight loss. I lost 40 lbs over the last 18 months and many have watched my transformation. I feel encouraged by so many. One Girl told me I am jealous of you and then she said you inspire me. (weird I know) The last compliment I got was how are you doing , that that is left of you anyway. I often get What are you doing you look awesome. My favorite from my husband I am so proud of you you look smoking Hot.0

I'm sorry to hear that. I know it's not the same online, but I think you look great. More than anything your body is complimenting you. Every time you pick up a heavy package of bottled water or a child your body protests less. Your heart is stronger and can crush workouts that were only a dream before.
On a side note, I've noticed that the more complimentary I am of others, the more people feel free to open up to me as well. This often results in compliments that they may have felt strange making without the opportunity. The result can only be positive, and I've gained many friends that are to shy to start conversations. (PS... It's not that I'm digging for compliments. It's that I'm looking for the positive in others, and even if they don't say a single word of reply, let alone return a kind comment, I feel good about the type of human I'm trying to be.)0 -

I totally get this! I tend to be friendly to almost an odd degree. Sometimes this invites unintended attention, or gives the wrong impression. I make a practice of mentioning my wonderful husband early in conversations. I've noticed that it helps to be careful of how I word my compliments. To make sure that my compliments don't come off as back handed, I'll offer a sincere "that new pair of slacks fits your body so well... keep up all the hard work." I'll mention the fact that they are stronger, look like they are glowing from the inside, look like they feel confident, can really crank out the pushups, etc. The other day I saw a middle aged woman doing rubber band assisted pull ups. I told her that she looked like a total bad A** doing those. BECAUSE SHE DID!0 -
Thank you for the compliments :flowerforyou:
I too think that people notice but they are unsure if they should comment or not. They don't want to offend or make you feel like you looked bad before.0 -
Friends who have known me for almost 40 yrs. have said I look younger since I've lost 22 lbs (so far and still going) - good to know since my husband is 12 yrs. younger than me - but he's much more mature!!0

recently I have been told i've lost loads of weight by a friend i used to work with, as well as my parents. I've also been told i'm my boyfriend's "trophy wife" by one of my boyfriend's best friend and have had my commitment and flexibility complimented by my personal trainer
feels pretty good I have to say.0 -
Many, many, years ago I was stretching at the gym (I've always been quite 'bendy') and an older woman approached me saying, "You must be a dancer! I admire your build. Are you a ballerina?" She was so nice and completely serious. I never forgot it. :blushing:0

Those are all awesome! Just a little bump. I'd love to hear more.0

yesterday my friend saw a picture of me and messaged me "You are looking so tiny! You look amazing, like not just skinny, but actually in shape. You inspire me to workout" that was sweet as hell lol.
i was in mango at the airport this morning and this brazilian woman kept calling me skinny when i was trying on these pants lol
and I didn't notice it but one of my friends told me that as we were leaving the bar tonight a group of guys was checking me out and saying stuff like "damnn!" lol
feelin sexy! :smooched:0 -
I'm back and living with my family over the summer. Although my weightloss hasn't been super dramatic according to my counter (I yoyo'd between 158 and 150 without logging for a while) I've lost about a stone. I was doing some kickboxing via a Youtube video and my brother walks in on me, sees that I'm 30 minutes in, and asks if I'm wrapping up soon. I point out to him that there's still 20 minutes of the video left, so no. He looks at me flabbergasted and says
'I couldn't do that, you must be a cyborg!'
Umm...Thanks?0 -
I feel like I've been on a roll lately. :blushing: Someone in my volunteer organization told me, "Keep doing whatever you're doing!" A woman in the same group asked me for fitness advice (and took it!), and another told me that I have great arms for my age (she didn't know I'm pretty pleased with my arms .
The very, very best compliment, though, was when my son told he he's proud of me. :smooched:
Next best was when one of my Krav Maga trainers told the guy I was partnered with, "You can hit harder, she's badass." :drinker: :glasses:0 -
I have my elderly patients that cannot believe I am my age, my son has friends that thought I was his sister when I dropped him off, and I was called. "The girl with the husky eyes ".... when a patient wanted to talk to me on the phone ... Not sure if being called a type of dog feels like a compliment... Lol. And I hear that I have a ton of will power when I will turn down junk food at work....0

From a female friend who hadn't seen me since about 60 pounds ago: (eyes wide open) OMG, you look AMAZING. (She later repeated said exclamation in the theatre).
I made a surprise appearance at a family reunion a couple weeks ago. My family hasn't seen me in two years, some even longer. I walked into my mom-mom's house, wearing shades, and she didn't recognize me. She said "Who is this handsome man walking into my house?" Lots of compliments those three days.
Two weeks ago, walking with a friend and brother from church, a middle aged woman cat calls us as we walk by. "Hey you handsome young men!" she shouts as she walks pass.
The best, of course, is my wife not being able to keep her eyes off me.0 -
I've had a lot of "you look great/awesome" since losing weight, which makes me feel so good! But one of my favorites is when I ran into a former coworker's teenage son and he didn't recognize me at first and then I heard through his mom that he told her (about me), "She was pretty big, but now she is like regular...she is like YOUR SIZE mom" (his mom's about size 6 and I'm still 10/12 but this was awesome LOL)0

Just this morning my office neighbor complimented the shirt I had on. Said it was super figure flattering and clearly showed off the nearly 50 lbs I have lost so far!!!0

They are jelly and not able to admit it. (snaps fingers three times in Z formation)0 -
My Physical Therapist and her Assistant called me "Sassy" yesterday. :happy:0
-
I went running with my boyfriend the other day and when we were done he said, "wow, babe, you are in amazing shape!" he always compliments me but this really boosted me that day!!0
-
I took part in a class today at a new studio the fitness instructor told me afterwards I was "really fit".
And also this week, the manager from my normal gym told me I was "outstanding" and he's really proud of me and all I've achieved.
I don't take compliments well but both comments made my day.
