Step calorie adjustment or manually enter?

I've read the FAQ, but I still don't understand how the calorie adjustment works.

For example, yesterday I walked ~7000 steps, so ~400 cal. During my workout, I burned around 450 cal.
According to the calorie adjustment, I should be in the the negatives for calorie adjustment.
Can someone explain the logic behind this?

On the FAQ, it says the adjustments are based off projections from either app. How exactly do the two apps work out projections based off steps and exercise? It seems to me, that, regardless of projections, you still burned 400 calories from steps at the end of the day. How does exercise negate the raw calories burned from steps?

I have my fitness level set to sedentary since I'm inconsistent with my workout levels, and I do not trust the calorie adjustment to subtract the proper amount of calories for inactive days.

I'm debating disconnecting the app and manually entering in calories burned.

I'm confused as to how this works as well. I had 105 calories burned from steps and then I entered 190 calories for 30 minutes of exercise and my step calories dropped to 50 calories. It makes no sense to me how I lost the calories burned from the steps prior to my exercise.
