Worried about my butt!!!

So the pounds have come off pretty easily so far by basically just giving up soda. I think I am ready to start exercising to compliment the change in my eating habits, but I'm worried I will lose my shape. I like my boobs and my butt and my hips. The only problem I have is in my stomach area after giving birth. I loooooove my butt lol. yes, it is big, but not wide and gross. It's my favorite thing about my body! I really want to be able to keep it after losing weight in my stomach. (I know there is no such thing as targeting fat) I tried to google for butt exercises, but so much of it is people trying to lose their butts, not keep it or make it bigger. Growing up I had a friend in gymnastics who had THE BEST BUTT so it must be possible? lol I'm sure this post comes off a bit ridiculous, but I am dead serious.

fat will come off where it wants to. you cant spot reduce and pick and choose where it comes off. but don't worry - you can do squats and step machine, walking at inclines, etc for the glutes0

T&A were the first things that I lost. but with good workouts, both have come back in an amazing way. you just gotta love what you got.0
-
Squats
There is also a workout called "The Butt Bible" (you can find it on youtube).0 -
My boobs disappeared when my body fat got really low (below 20%), but thanks to squats, lunges, hip thrusts and deadlifts my butt looks just as good as ever. Never lost my butt and it's still firm and perky.0

Weight lifting will retain the muscle in your butt as you lose, and of course the muscle is the best part, what gives it it's round shape. Squats, lunges, deadlifts, and even barbell hip thrusts if you really want to get serious about the butt. I've heard good things about Strong Curves (a book), but there's also New Rules of Weight Lifting for Women and Strong Lifts 5x5.0

I know fat doesn't come off that way, I was trying to ask how to build the muscle after losing the fat I just did a poor job of it.
If walking at an incline helps I am ecstatic. I live on a huge hill that I already like to walk up for exercise.0 -
Speed skating/roller derby has given me the most amazing butt I've ever had. High, round, firm, no visible cellulite anymore... every. single. woman. in roller derby has a better butt than before. I can't recommend it highly enough.0

Squats
Lunges

Weighted squats. Fill in the volume lost by losing fat with muscle.0

You probably can't do much about your boobs, but you can start lifting to retain the muscles in your booty so that you don't end up flatter than you'd like.0

Which workouts did you use that help the most? lol I would love to have nice T's again. I basically wrote them off already, but some posts around here are giving me some hope.0 -
For the record, it's considered bad form to say that you like your boobs and butt and to not provide any photographic evidence.0

In for butt discussion.0

Nothing you can do about the boobs, but doing heavy barbell squats, lunges, dead lifts, glute/ham raises, and a number of other lifts can certainly minimize butt damage.0
-
Get yourself on a good lifting routine - one that includes a focus on your butt. Squats are great, and people should try to incorporate them into a routine, but they re more quad focused. Look at barbell hip thrusts and/or bridges.
Brett Contreras is a great resource - look into his "Strong Curves" routine.
As has been mentioned, there is not a lot you can do about the size of your boobs, other than cosmetic surgery.0 -

Oh. hello. :blushing:0 -
A second mention for Strong Curves. It is aimed at the aesthetics of glute building, but strength is there as well. Barbell hip thrusts included in with squats and deadlifts gave me the best shape enhancement.
There are many different lifts that can support the gluets and hamstring tie-in like lunges, glute bridges, bulgarian split squats, goblet squats, cable abductors, and various band exercises.
Check out Strong Curves. He has the 12 week programs available in PDF for free on his site: http://bretcontreras.com/strong-curves-a-womans-guide-to-building-a-better-butt-and-body-sample-and-coaching-consultation-giveaway/0 -
Thanks for all of the recommendations!! I'm going through the thread and checking them all out and bookmarking left and right. I've already wanted to start lifting anyway since I joined MFP!0

Wow!! That is incredible. Great butt!0 -
Lose the fat and build the muscle... Gymnasts have great booty, because they are all muscle...
I've lost a lot of weight over the years, and I lift so my rump gets better not worse... Oh, I still have boobs too, but admittedly they are not as firm as they once were (2 kids and a total of 80 pounds do a number on the elasticity of the skin).0 -

I was going to suggest "Strong Curves" as well. Sara knows her s***!0 -
It's funny how years ago when step classes were really in women were complaining about the booty they were getting, As some one with a bootylucious figure myself I agree with the previous posters about the squats, lunges, deadlifts etc.. You can improve your booty . It will get smaller but from the side it can look a lot perkier and will still be there0

i was 'worried' about this too, kinda. i started losing weight and realized that it went away first in my belly (which is where i gain first), in my boobs and face. last is my butt and thighs. i felt really good about that. although, i'm happy losing fat from where ever it decides to come off of. i'm more concerned with carrying around excess fat all over than losing my shape.0

squats will give you a glorious butt, even if you drop a little weight there. No worries, you'll look better than ever.0

Check out Strong Curves. It's a book with a program specifically designed to build glutes. It also gives a good all-over body workout, but the main focus is building glutes.0

So I am currently cutting and trying to maintain my butt. It's freaking hard to do. You are going to lose in those areas as for most women boobs and butt go first. I used to be a C I am now an A. I don't like it one bit but I like the rest of my body and am proud of the fat lost so I put up with it. My butt has shrunk but it looks much nicer now.
As I was saying I am cutting and trying to keep the booty from shrinking more. What I do and have had some awesome success is I of course work my legs once a week and I work them hard...squats are your best friend! But every other day at the end of a workout no matter what body part I am lifting I do 2 glute targeting exercise. Some say this doesn't work and it's just an accessory lift, but I have seen a huge difference!! For cardio I try to stick to the stair master more than anything else or other machines at an incline so you work your glutes more.
As for finding the right exercise to do look on bodybuilding.com, they have a huge selection of articles to read that are pretty dang good! But my favorite way to find something to do is to look at Katy Hearn. If you have an instagram start following her...Her butt is fabulous! And she posts a lot of workouts targeting them.
All in all weights are your best friend.0 -
I lost my butt last year after losing the baby weight because I ate too little and lost weight too fast. So I completed a 15 week bulk while using the Strong Curves program. I've now cut back down to almost my pre-bulk weight and am happy to say the booty is still there and going strong.
The secret is to lift HEAVY and eat at a very slight deficit. The higher the deficit the more likely you are to lose lean body mass. I'm losing 0.5 lbs per week and my bum is still bootylicious.0
