I love fishing!!
I live near the Chesapeake Bay and I go fishing for seabass, trout, croaker, spot and Rockfish better known as striped bass.
I rarely keep the fish but I give them away to my cousins and mom.
If I end up in Maryland for training late winter into early spring like the current plan is know that I will be looking you up!0 -
I keep fishing gear in my trunk at all times. I'm ready to fish at a moment's notice.
In my state, the only really fun freshwater fish is catfish. They put up a nice fight and they can get fairly large, and they're in rivers and lakes. We don't even have walleye or anything remotely interesting unless you go to the beach. Ocean fishing rules, but I live too far away to make that a reality very often.
I throw back what I catch unless it's big enough to be worth the trouble of cleaning. I use mostly use octopus or circle hooks which boost the chances of the fish getting hooked in the corner of the lip instead of swallowing the hook...much more humane for catch and release.0 -
In defiance of all the stupid person above you threads:
Who likes to go fishing?
What is your favorite fish to catch?
Do you like eating what you catch?
Fishing is one of my favorite outdoor activities (especially if I am on the kayak).
My favorite fish to catch is all of them.
And I only like eating the good ones.

Fish all the time with my baby and sons. It's a biweekly thing if not weekly
Salmon because it's my favorite to eat. I like crabbing too.
Yes, I love stocking my freezer with our catches and having the ability to provide goodwholesome food for my family0 -

My current plan is to drop my pot off Shilshole Friday night before I go to work, come back in the morning about 5 or so and see if I can pick up a King for the wife's birthday dinner. Dungeness and King would be a complete win for me.
Do you ever fish the Tulalip Bubble? I want to try it in my kayak for kings with jigs or mooching.0 -
I don't get to go near as often as I would like. The Larro Ranchero is just over a mile from a public boat ramp on the Chipola River. While I am in the garden working I see a steam of trucks with boats behind on the way to the river.
After nearly ten years of being dry, my little 5 acre pond is holding water again. My retired cousin, {who has time to fish} is stocking it this summer. So far he has put red breast bream, shell cracker, warmouth, channel cat, speckled cat and large mouth in there.
We also have several small man made fish ponds on our river land. The river flooded in the spring, so whatever is in them is what the river left us.
One day soon I'm going to get my sister to take me and my canoe up the river on her way to work. I'll fish on the trip down, stopping to cook what I catch on Ring Jaw Island. In the river you catch mostly bream, but there is channel cat and large mouth as well. Some of the best bait on the river is larva from the big wasp nest you see in trees. Just take a paper bag, set it on fire and burn the wasp's wings off so they fall in the river. Then you tear down the nest and use the larva for bait.0 -

Red and silver salmon. Halibut and cod are also fun.
I rarely eat fish. I give it all away to my friends/family/neighbors.0 -

Hammybone, I'm guessing Alaska becuase you referred to Reds instead of Sockeye. My retirement goal is to move to Kodiak and only leave to find a different place to occasionally hunt and fish.0 -
I enjoy fishing. Bf just purchased a nice little rowboat that we will now use to get to those hard to reach places on the lake.
I do eat what I catch, or I just have fun cutting the little fish into fillets and feeding them to the cat. It really depends on what is caught.0 -

Sounds like your BF is well trained. I would love living in a place that I could go after bluegills with the kids.0 -

We have a place not too far from us that is stocked full of them. It's great for a day where you just want to get out and do something that the kid will enjoy. Though last time he ended up tossing all of our bait (little bits of cheese) in the water.0 -
Bass. I love bass fishing. I haven't been in far too long, but I love to eat'em too.
Bass nuggets dipped in egg and sliced bread crumbs, deep fried and served hot.
I'll make you chew your fingers off.0 -

You're nucking futs...bass are awesome. Largemouth get a little fishy after 4 lbs or so if they're grilled.
"Bass don't taste good" is something drummed up by catch and release only anglers with no clue about lake/pond management. One of the best things you can do in an over/under slot lake is keep the unders (which too few people do).
I like catching fish on bass casting gear or ultralight spinning tackle. I'm best at black bass fishing, so this is what I do most often, but I fish for largemouth bass, spotted bass, guadalupe bass, smallmouth bass, crappie, bluegill, catfish, white bass, hybrid striped bass, striped bass, yellow bass, rainbow trout, or various sunfishes.0 -
Yes! Alaskan summers are the fisherman's dream!0

Bump...because it is Saturday and I am going fishing0
-
I'll fish for anything and be happy. Muskie fishing is a hoot. I'm mostly catch and release except for walleyes and crappies. I'll keep an occasional trout when I can get one.0

I am not a hardass.
I am not a badass.
I am not a lardass.
I love fly fishing more than any other type of angling. However, I also totally dig the challenge of using an ultralight. I love to catch and release because I really don't care for fresh water fish. I am a badass chef, but if I want a good cut of fish, I will go to the market.
I will fish for all types of species both fresh and saltwater. It is sanctuary for me and I leave my smartphone in the truck. I think I'll go this afternoon late (Saturday). It's terrestrial season here and all species are on top. Groovy.

Look at all you master baiters!
My friend Stu Pidasso has often said this. Are you related? Old and tired attempt at humor.
Real fisher persons don't use bait, notably if that are an Angling Master.0 -

I like it alawt.
Fly Fishing, mainly trout. :bigsmile:0 -
I went on the Chipola River Tuesday afternoon. I had planned on bringing bread and cheese for bait {and for snacking}, but I left them on the counter. I did have a few cucumbers, so I tried a bit of that. Caught a nice red breast bream on the first cast. Later on I tried top water plugs, plastic worms and spinning lures, hoping for a bass. Didn't do as good with them. But a day on the river is good even if the fish aren't biting.

I like to fish, I go alot.

I love fishing. The only fish I have ever caught is a northern and I enjoyed it because hey, I caught a fish. We always throw them back because, again, it's a northern.0
-
I give them a little kiss before I send them back. There is not enough room in my kayak for more than that . . . I mean to keep and eat later. Where did your mind go? :noway:0

Love this photo and agree would rather be fishing and not catching than not fishing at all.
I just did a search for fishing groups on mfp and found:
http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/4683-i-d-rather-be-fishing
It is appears to be un-used so to speak and looks like we could use it to our hearts content if we wanted to. I am going to join it and will see if you all follow.
