Anyone else seeing that the timex products give an extremely elevated calorie count?

I don't have one...but I've noticed that trend among friends who have Timex HRMs. That's why I got a Polar:wink:

Interesting and thanks for taking the time to respond.

I double checked my settings last night and they are all correct. But it appears to be about 250 calories high when compared to a manual calculation using Vo2 max and average HR. At the very least, the reset of the reporting appears to be quite good. A plus I suppose.

I used a new balance last night, just for craps and giggles, and it was 200 calories below my manual calculation.

I did not hate the polar, though I think it estimated high as well, except the battery change is a complete pain in the butt. And it is very expensive.

Yes I looked at Polars too when I went to purchase mine yesteray... I found the Timex to be a little easier on my wallet.

What is the formula to manually calculate calories or where can i find it? I would like to check mine to see if I am getting a similar numbers?

I had a hard time initially changing my battery (FT60) but read that a 2 Euro coin fits great into the slot. And it did! Just ordered the extra seal/battery from Polar and it was so simple!

    Using VO2max
    Men: C/min = (-59.3954 + (-36.3781 + 0.271 x age + 0.394 x weight + 0.404 x VO2max + 0.634 x HR))/4.184
    Women: C/min = (-59.3954 + (0.274 x age + 0.103 x weight + 0.380 x VO2max + 0.450 x HR)) / 4.184

    Without VO2max
    Men: C/min = (-55.0969 + 0.6309 x HR + 0.1988 x weight + 0.2017 x age) / 4.184
    Women: C/min = (-20.4022 + 0.4472 x HR + 0.1263 x weight + 0.074 x age) / 4.184
    weight is in kg
