How many do you have?
How did they become that?
How often do you evaluate them for that role?
What is their "management style"?
Do you respect them?
Their methods?
Their goals?
Their results vis a vis their stated goals?

How many do you have? Two. One I directly report to and another that I occasionally have to hear from.
How did they become that? Their parents built the company.
How often do you evaluate them for that role? Evaluate their professional performance, or evaluate them as people? Neither, hardly ever
What is their "management style"? Hands on. Good people.
    Do you respect them? Yes
    Their methods? Not always
    Their goals? Usually
Their results vis a vis their stated goals? Not as often as I would like.

How many do you have? Just one... my dachshund.
How did they become that? Hypnotized me with his adorable puppy eyes.
How often do you evaluate them for that role? Never, there is no question about his role.
What is their "management style"? Demanding and authoritative, but always appreciative.
    Do you respect them? Absolutely.
Their methods? Not always; pooping on the carpet is not cool man.
Their goals? Yes, his goals deserve to be met in a timely fashion.
Their results vis a vis their stated goals? Yes, he always gets his way...gotta respect a smart pup.

May His noodly appendage bless you with abundance. :drinker:

OP, I work as an independent contractor for several theatre and puppetry companies. I don't have a boss, and I do what I want, with lots of creative freedom. The downside is that I don't have a steady paycheck, or bosses to evaluate. I guess technically the owners of the companies are my bosses, but we don't really evaluate each other. If I don't like the details of a job (including who is in charge) I can just say no, and if they become tired of my antics they can stop calling and offering me jobs. I like this arrangement.

So I'm the boss of me. I'm also the boss of my husband and son. And I'm the boss of 2 cats (one of them hates me for it). Occasionally, I get to be the boss of a barnful of horses, that's the best. Even if their evaluations can be pretty painful (one bit me on the *kitten* once, but I had it coming).

    1) 3
    2) I opted to start working for them
    3) Monthly. The job of a boss is to facilitate my ability to do my job and earn income, if they are performing poorly I like to know ahead of time so I can begin looking elsewhere.
    4) There are 3 distinct management styles in play.. The Friend, The Screamer and the Do your damned job and we'll get along fine
    5) 2 of them I do.
    6) Yes
    7) Yes.
    8) If the results were less than their stated goals we can refer back to 3, in so far, in the 8 years I have worked for them they have done an O.K job.
