Day out with son in London tomorrow - help!

Options
He wants to get a treat like pizza hut and I'm on a recovery day and have to stick to 1200 measley calories.

Perhaps I could bribe him with new clothes and a coffee and snack? I'm going to be a right old party pooper, or sitting bibbling salad and drinking water while he scoffs on delicious pizza. I don't know if I could cope with that?

I need support as I'm in severe danger of throwing the last few day's effort out the window.

What would you do?

    I would head to pizza express, they do "legerra" pizzas on their menu (pizza with a hole in the middle filled with salad). Less than 500 calories and your son could have pizza too without you feeling like you are missing out :-)

    Pizza Express! Or take a lunch box with you, eat it in the park, take him to pizza hut and let him go nuts whilst you have a bit of salad or something :)

    I've had these before and if you can ignore the fact there's a hole in the middle they do actually just taste the same.

    One day wont ruin all your work, but equally - it's a day out for your son - and is there anything we won't do for our children????

    Get 2 personal pan pizzas 620 cal each. You eat half and save the rest. In London you should have no trouble walking 100 minutes to burn that off. How to motivate you? Choose somewhere in London you have never been and walk there. After walking 2 hours he will likely want your remaining pizza. And you can graciously give it to him and you will be in deficit from all the walking. Win, win!!

    Don't take the underground if you don't have to.Walk a lot. Then you can have pizza. Enjoy your day with your son.

    Yeah go for the 500 calorie pizza, or just pre-log what you plan to have. Pizza hut do the salad bar too so just watch for any creamy sauces but load up on salad and just have a couple of slices of pizza with it.

    Plus I imagine you will be walking miles around London (I know I did!) so you will probably burn off plenty of calories.

    Maybe head to the food court in the middle of Camden markets (the Camden Lock part). There's an amazing sushi place there (very healthy and the guy makes it to order - including chopping the avocado etc!). There's also a 'paleo' stall. Plus, for him, there's pizza, curry, burritos, polish sausages, hog roasts ... anything you can imagine. Grab your different foods, eat them on the trestle tables in the middle, then go shopping!

    I'd go to a Wetherspoons - they have plenty of under 500 cal options listed on their menus, as well as burgers and the like for other diners.

    Enjoy being in London - we just returned from holiday there for a few days and I miss it already. You will walk alot so try not to worry too much.

    Pizza Express is great, but Also there is a wonderful Italian Bistro in the center of Convent Gardens, They have a full menu, and you can eat low calorie and your son can eat his pizza, this place has wood fired pizza.

    And walk. Do a great deal of walking. Do not know how old your Son is, but one of my favorite things to do is take the Duck Boat on a city tour, They leave from near the Eye accros the Thames.

    But Do enjoy your time with your Son, that is special, and you will never get that time back again. Enjoy.

    I went to London a few weeks ago and found this wonderful place near Tate Modern called Leon (there's quite a few of them around London) I had a big chicken and chorizo club salad which with dressing has 503 calories, 41g protein, 25g fat, 26g carbs and 5g fibre. Without dressing it's just 370 calories and 11g fat, but still with 40g protein, 25g carbs and 5g fibre. I had it with a large mug of green tea and was full for 5 hours! I don't know what kind of food your son likes, but they do chicken burgers, meatballs and rice, fish finger wraps and waffle fries, and they also have a kid's menu too. It's not as cheap as other places, but I really wish there was one closer to where I live, because the food is so delicious! (Here's their website if you fancy a look! http://leonrestaurants.co.uk/ )
    Nandos is also a good place for a low-mid calorie meal. On the same day(!) I had their plain butterfly chicken breast which was 310 calories with a whopping 57.2g protein. Have that with their ratatouille and you have a 418 calorie meal, or have it with their side salad for a 320 calorie meal.
    Plus, when I was there, I avoided the Tube as much as possible, because the weather was so nice. I worked out that I walked approximately 10 miles, a burn of 838 calories for me.
    Whatever you do though, have a lovely time!

    I am a big fan of the Leggera pizzas at Pizza Express. My favourite is around 415 calories. Plump for one of their dolcetti - the sorbet is only around 85 (it's just one scoop, plus a tea or coffee).

    Alternatively, Bella Italia do a range of Pizza Vita. No hole in the middle, but the pizzas are wholewheat. All are under 600 calories, with the Pizza Vita Olive only around 520. Try one of the mini desserts, the lemon tart (a tiny slice) is 115.

    I eat out in London all the time and continue to lose weight. It's about knowing what to choose off the menu. Have fun!:)

    Pizza Hut also have 3 different pizzas on their menu that come in at under 500 calories each. Loads of restaurants have menus on their websites so you can check out where you are going and find something that will work for you. Good luck and have a fab day in London.

    I just wanted to thank everyone for their suggestions.

    The main reason for our visit was for my son to attend a very specialised clinic. It was our first visit and we had to travel a long way, got lost etc. We were lucky to grab a drink! We left at before 9am and got home about 10pm.

    Fortunately, next visit we'll know exactly how to get there and we will be able to go and have something proper!

    Pizza Express do a really good salmon salad - that's what I had when I treated my daughter to Pizza! They also do 'low' pizzas -essentially a thin crust pizza with a hole in the middle!

    just wanted to echo some of the comments above... short term blips do not a problem make.... its long term consistency.... the day sounded stressful enough as it was so to allow yourself a little treat in the midst of that.... even if it was pizza... would not have harmed the work you are doing.... as long as it is not the normal daily intake and just a once in a while thing then there is absolutely no problem with having a splurge day every now and then.... in fact as far as i understand it if you do then you actually help yourself because you don't end up craving crap and reverting to old ways....

    anyway hope all is well and good luck for the future
