Hello everyone!
I have been lurking around this site for the past two days and I finally decided to join, as it seems to be a lovely place.
My name is Tru and I am 31 years old, 5'5, and 170lbs. I am a single mother that is currently unemployed, although that should change here in the next month.
I used to be about 130-135lbs a few years back; however, I have been unemployed and doing online classes for the past two years and I have been gaining weight like crazy. The jobs I had before all required standing and moving, so I never really had to worry about a lot of weight gain - maybe 5lbs here or there, but they were easy to lose if needed. Now that I am *ahem* lazy, I realized I needed to do something about it.
I do not have the luxury of hitting the gym, but even if I could, my anxiety were not allow me to do so. I have a pretty good fear of being around people and I also have struggled with insecurities and depression all of my life, so having to work-out in front of others would not go well for me and would more than likely cause me to give up.
I decided to take a little step at a time and use the Wii Fit Plus routines, just to get me up and going. You have to understand that I have been very, very lazy these past few years, exercise-wise, so I need to slowly work my strength up. So far, I do feel the sweat and the burn to my muscles!
I have also given up Mountain Dew (gasp) and started drinking lemon water and Arizona Green Tea. I thought for sure I would lose a little bit of weight, figuring that I was carrying a bit of water, but alas...no. BUT, I will continue drinking the water and will not go back to the pop, because I know it is healthier even if it is taking forever to notice any results.
My goal is to be back at the 130 mark - so about 40lbs to go. My metabolism used to be amazing, so here's hoping I didn't lose it completely! I also love food, so for right now, I will focus on the exercising routine before I worry about dieting. I do not eat a whole lot, except during those PMS times, but I do eat at different times and not at the normal breakfast/lunch/dinner times...but, I will get to that later. First, I just want to focus on one thing at a time.
Whew, well that is enough about me. Looking forward to sharing my journey with you all and reading about yours. Take care!

Wii Fit is a good place to start I think.
I think it's important to note that a healthy/fit lifestyle is 80% diet 20% working out.. so although it will help you tremendously to workout... it wont solve the weight issue unless you eat virtually healthy/portioned already.. ..
I have learned this time and time again the hard way..
I too have a fear of the gym for those similar reasons. I've become addicted to the Beachbody workouts. I started out doing the dance ones (in the comfort of my home it didn't mater that I fumbled..) after weeks I was able to up it, I now love working out, and have to focus more on better eating.
I wish you the best of luck and hope you are able to reach your goals with the use of MFP---It sure does help to have a supportive group of people waiting to help you achieve your goals through endless motivation...0 -

100% agree. Exercise is important, but you are going to loose like 80% of the weight in the kitchen. That is unless your exercising enough to train for a marathon, then you don't have to kill yourself over calorie intake.0 -
Haha, thank you all!
The reason I am taking this route is because when I try to do the double whammy of diet AND exercise, I get bored pretty quick and fail. While I know that dieting is the big weight loss trick, I know that dieting WITHOUT exercise is pointless, as well. I figured that if I start exercising, not only to help me lose weight, but to also help me get off my butt, I will get used to my routine and then - I can start the diet. I do not expect to lose a lot of weight yet, but right now I think that by working on the exercise routine first, I will be more than likely able to do it all soon since I am already exercising. Does this make sense, lol? I am basically trying to do reverse psychology on myself
Again, thank you all for the warm welcome! I may not be on this site a lot at first, but I will eventually become regular once I get the hang of things here at home.0 -

You will get there.. and It may just work to get you in the right train of though..maybe just start small swapping out certain foods for healthier options you know?. but I think you will accomplish all your goals.. and sometimes working out is hard...so getting into that habit may be the push your mind will need to want to constantly make the right choices...You will get to the point where, "Why am I working out and not eating to help" atleast in theory lol.. I wish you all the best though, I know you will do it.. Feel free to add me if you want the added motivation..0
