I meant to program the DVR last night. DH hates that type of show, so I usually watch Intervention on Tuesdays when he is not home. Heavy would be good to watch then as well! I will have to program it in tonight when I get home for next week!

Oh yea,i was great. I was really impressed with the hard work displayed by both. It was pure grit and determination. I have long said that you can change a person's habits (emo eating, over eating etc) but it won't happen overnight. The problem with our society is impatience. Everyone wants results yesterday!!! Although I'm not against baratric surgery (my best friend has the lap band), I am against the way we plonk people on the table, open them and and think that we will fix them by muddling around with their insides! My friend still deals with ALLLL of her original issues (Overeating, Poor nutrition, Emo eating etc) because no one gave her the therapy or rehab she needed. She lost the weight because the food she was (still) shoving down her throat was making her sick.

I would prefer to do this the long hard way. I'm so glad the people on last night's show proved it could be done!

Watched Heavy too last night. Loved the fact that it shows that (like MFP) people really can (and do) lose weight by having or acquiring a positive mindset, hard work, and determination. Even though they have the benefit of personal trainers and are able to just focus on themselves in a controlled environment for 30 days, it also shows that you can still make changes out in the real world.

I can't believe that lump on the guy's leg weighed almost 8 lbs! It is so sad that people get to that state where moving is such a hard thing to do. But kudos to both of them for keeping it up! I want a personal trainer to kick my *kitten* for free!!
  • I loved it. It was different from "Biggest Loser" because of the way they did things. People need to know how to eat in the real world without trainers, dieticians, and constant support because that is what reality is like.

I saw it and loved it. This show and "I Used to be Fat" are so inspirational to me. I figure if they can do it, I can, too.

I just finished watching this online! Below is the link if you don't have cable like me. Well Heavy got an A+ from me. With me being a super morbibly obese person at one time it was more realistic than the Biggest Loser. It dealt more with food addiction. It was not pushing them to insane workouts and insane painful workouts for someone their size. Even though I think Bob and Jillian mean well sometimes they can be demeaning and unrealistic expectations. I also feel they are not preparing contestants for life either, but it is a start for sure. Letting them do 5 months at home shows they get the food addiction problem that goes with morbid obesity.

I like both shows but I can already see I will like Heavy better because they are letting them leave their facility right away. 1 month on the ranch and 5 months with life. If you are gaining back to the ranch for more help. I was awesome and of course I needed my tissues because it hit home on so many levels. I noticed that one of the trainers let the guy know it would be years of working thru his issues to get to 250. That alone was encouraging to me. Letting me know I am not failing because I am up and down or because I am not where I wanted to be or think I should be at this time.

I just hope they are help some after the show too. If not it is still a huge jump start for these peoples. I compare it to WLS surgery. It is giving them a jump start and it is up to them to do the rest.

You guys are totally right...this show is nothing at all like Biggest Loser, where people go to the Ranch where they have no TV or phones, have their diets managed, learn about nutrition, and get to work out all day long under the supervision of trainers and doctors, and then go home to carry on the mission.

Nothing at all like it. I didn't see any similarities.

Except they went to a spa for a month, (or two for Tom) had no contact with the outside world, learned about nutrition, had personal trainers work with them all day long, had their diets managed, lost the same amount of weight in the same amount of time, then went home, just like they do on Biggest Loser.

The only difference is no games, and no big money payoff at the end.

I liked the show, I like BL too. Hopefully these shows inspire the people who need it.

But to say this show is reality is just plain BS. Only super rich people, or those selected by A&E can do a program like this. It is no more real than Biggest Loser is.

I don't like all the commercialism in BL either. I dvr it and when Bob or Jillian start pimping for ZIploc bags, Subway or Extra I treat it like any other commercial and FF through it.

i watch both 'heavy' and 'i used to be fat' and love them both! they are way more realistic than biggest loser. i like how on heavy they go home and work out and then come back because i truly believe you need to live your real life not just being squirreled away from society and work to lose weight. i like the mtv show because it has younger people closer to my age but i really like how its all about exercising and dieting and nothing about surgeries or pills. plus, even at the end some of the people still need to lose weight, so the show its all wrapped up in a tiny bow. i would love to see current updates of the college kids now.

I watched it. It was very motivational and moving. To see them grow and learn where the problem lies. Especially with him and how he started gaining weight as soon as he went home...he had to go back and relearn it...but that time it stuck. I hope they do a show to show how they continue after their show is over. I like the "real" of this show and that it's not a contest (like Biggest Loser).

I also like "I used to be Fat"...it has motivated me to get out there and move. I used to make excuses...now I know that I can do it too!

I watched all 4 episodes of "I used to be fat" that I missed through my cable's On Demand in one sitting. I couldn't stop watching it. It motivated me so much. I'm going to check if this new show is also on On Demand so I can watch it too. Shows like these are great to watch and give me so much hope.
