Ever since I started MFP I have been counting my calories like a kindergartener learning to count.. and I love it! I bought a food scale over a year ago that I've never even used until now. It's amazing! My husband and I also bought extra sets of measuring cups and spoons. 1200 seems so low that I want to get EVERY morsel I can without going over a tbsp, or a cup.

I somehow find all this measuring and weighing of my food fun.. does anyone else do this?

I forgot to mention.. it really amazes me what a normal bowl of cereal looks like with a cup of cereal and cup of milk.. all these years I think I was eating about 600 calories worth of cereal when I should have only been eating 250!

Before my husband started doing this with me he thought I was crazy for measuring everything I ate. He thought it was a waste of my time but then he saw it really was working for me. He joined MFP! For Christmas I asked for a food scale and surprisingly he bought me one. Now I am having fun measuring everything from meat to pasta to veggies and fruit. I want to get every calorie out of my good food that I can.

I've been obsessive about measuring, also. Actually, I had to laugh when I read your post. This is my third week on MFP and, although I already owned at least two full sets of measuring cups and 3 full sets of measuring spoons, yesterday I went out and bought another set of each! I was also looking at food scales. I owned one years ago, but it was very cheap and I don't think it was accurate. So, now I'm in the market for a food scale which will accurately measure out my 3 oz. of chicken breast (or whatever). That's what I'm lacking now; I've been eyeballing my fish / chicken / etc. portions (according to The Mayo Clinic Diet book guidelines), but I'm not satisfied with that.

Any recommendations on a food scale?

Good luck to you, my comrade in measuring!

Wow, I'm exactly the same! I started to count the calories I was intaking, then bought a digital scale, then invested in some colourful measuring cups (we dont normally use them over here in the UK - but alot of the American brand foods gets measured like this!), which I now hang proudly over the cooker.

I have even started to compile a little list on the side of our kitchen notice board of how many grams there are for types of food per cup etc! I too found the cereal I have is way more 'expensive' on the calories then I had figured! But I'm too tight to chuck out the old one tils its all used up (I tend to stock up on the value sized bags, d'uh!) - so I have much smaller portions now!!

OMG I discovered the same thing the other day! I weighed my "standard" bowl of cereal and realised it wasn't the 30g as it says on the packet but almost 100g!

Anything I ever want to buy, MOST of the time I look on Amazon for the best priced and best rated product! That's where I got my food scale. :-)

Also.. we now own about 3-4 sets of measuring spoons and cups as well! =P

That's a great idea! I have a wipe-off board on my fridge, and I think I'm going to do that!

It's just crazy how NORMAL portions look small to me after measuring them because all in all, Americans' portion sizes are WAY too huge! I'll never look at 3 oz of meat the same.. lol
