Popcorn....Diet killer? or Healthy Snack?

I have the 100 calorie light butter or kettle corn a few times a week, it does have a lot of sodium...but I figure you can't eat perfectly every single day with every meal and every snack, and I could splurge on something a lot worse, like potato chips/fast food/any other junk food. If you like it and can have it in moderation while meeting your calorie goal, why not?0

Healthy snack. I pop the kernels in my popcorn maker. I can decide how much butter and salt to put on it if any.0

Depends on what you put on it and how you cook it...........the bagged microwave kind? Forget it! Pop it yourself with an air popper, much healthier.......lil salt, lil butter, yum!0

Popcorn without butter = Good for you. Do I like it? Heck no!
Popcorn with butter = Bad for you. Do I like it? Heck YEAH!!!
So, I don't eat popcorn any more, because the only way I like it is SATURATED.0 -
I don't touch it. ONE regular sized bag is actually 3.5 servings...so if you eat the entire bag imagine the amount of calories you're eating. I'd stick with the 100-cal pop bags or individual sizes so you know precisely what you're eating. It's WAY too easy to eat too many calories with the stuff, and I find other alternatives like baked pita snacks that contain less cals [especially from fat like butters].0

I have an air popper I used to make popcorn all the time! I would spray it with a little cooking spray and put a tsp of parmesan cheese!0

I usually eat Olver Reddenbackers Popcorn that consist of 100 calories per bag. It's very satisfying and taste wonderful.0

I like that when I make it on the stovetop I can control how much oil goes into it. I can also control the salt. Plus popcorn with sea salt is 10 times better than whatever they use at the movies!0

I love popcorn, but it is a diet killer for me. Corn products in general, but popcorn specifically, makes me feel very hungry... almost immediately after eating. This is one of those foods that I have had to eliminate from my diet. :sad: :brokenheart: But like someone who eliminates peanuts/diary/gluten because of a food allergy I don't miss it anymore. Just shows, foods affect people in different ways.0

I enjoy a good bowl of popcorn air popped! Sometimes I add a little Peruvian Chili Lime mix and its so so good. Other times a little bit of homemade chai spice. When you make it yourself and limit your toppings it can act as a wonderful snack or even dessert0

I had 15 cups of popcorn last night which I make myself from the kernels on the stove top with a little bit of coconut oil. I was trying to get some carbs and FIBER!! mmmm...Fiber.0

You can microwave your own popcorn in a brown paper bag - much cheaper and far healthier than the store bought micro stuff. Add your own butter, oil, seasonings or whatever you want. We eat popcorn here almost every day (and I'm not gaining any weight) with real butter - 1/3 cup kernels in a lunch-size brown bag makes a big ol' bowl that I share with my hubby & kiddo.0

popcorn for sure is healthy......it's when you drench it in butter and add salt or seasoning it becomes junk food.
It is high-ish in carbs though so that might be a big reason some people avoid it.
I like popcorn but don't have it too often though since I have other snacks I like better.0 -
My husband does mine in our whirley pop. I use the shake on flavorings rather than adding butter :-)0

Popcorn and chips are the hardest for me. i have only once had a portion of popcorn and not gone back for seconds, thirds etc. They can be a healthy snack if you can control yourself.0

I just finished a 100 calorie bag as my evening snack. I love it. It's filling and low calorie.
I also love air popped with a bit of butter flavoured Pam and either some low fat Parmesan or a sprinkle of Buffalo Wild Wings Salt and Vinegar flavouring. Mmm.0 -
I eat it about once a week, love the stuff and well i'll take the calories as it's worth it to me.0

Oh, popcorn. I could live on popcorn.
I got an air popper for Christmas and I use it once a week or so. I do usually melt a TBS or two of butter over it, so I'm guilty of adding "unnecessary fats" to my popcorn, but it's just something I work into my calorie intake/output and I'm okay with it.
Also, my dogs eat as much of my popcorn as I do!0 -
I eat popcorn, usually once a week. I just posted on another thread that I make a smked salt that is great on it, and I like chipotle chili powder on it too. Drink lots of water to get rid of the sodium.0

We make fresh popcorn in our Whirley Pop frequently. We use 1.5 tbsp of Orville Redenbacher Buttery Flavored Popcorn Oil. Then we each season our portions how we want. We use shake on white cheddar, or butter flavor, or kettle corn flavor. I also add some salt. It's the oil that kills it calorie wise.. but other than that it's not bad at all.0

I lost 30 pounds by exercising and replaced all my junk food with popcorn. I need something to snack on and popcorn is a good alternative to all the other junk I was eating. Plus, it gave me an incentive to buy my popcorn machine.
You can get the pre-measured portion packs but DO NOT. They are not healthy for you. Instead, use canola oil - a type that lowers your cholesterol and reduces your risk of heart disease, according to the Mayo Clinic. Canola oil also is low in saturated fat, but contains omega-3 fatty acids, important nutrients for heart health -

I love popcorn! I have an air popper. I will pop 2 to 4 tablespoons in it and eat it with 2 tablespoons of nutritional yeast (lick a piece, dip in yeast) it is delicious and cheesy tasting.0
