healthy smoothie recipes?

Hello:) I just started MFP today and I was wondering if anybody had any helpful recipies for healthy smoothies. Any nutritional smoothie that you know of will be thanked. Also, do you guys believe protein powder should be added to the smoothie? I will most likely be consuming these smoothies for breakfast. Thank you and if I got some friends to motivate me with their post that would be great too :)

  • Haven't found a protein powder flavor that I like so I don't use protein powder. However, I do make smoothies pretty regularly. I just go simple: one banana, about 5oz of plain non fat greek yogurt, 8-10 frozen strawberries, splash of orange juice or water, a handful of spinach, and some ground chia or flax seeds. The spinach makes it green but doesn't later the flavor at all. Also the seeds don't alter the flavor either. I'm a stickler for needing things to taste "normal" and not too green or healthy. Once you put a banana in a smoothie it pretty much tastes like banana. Since I put the yogurt in this it keeps me full for a good few hours. Check labels and buy the yogurt with highest protein content since that'll help keep you fuller longer.

Sometimes if I have it on hand I'll throw in a sliced Anjou pear.

Another one is half mango, half avocado, half banana and water. Really creamy texture. The mango (fresh) covers the avocado flavor.

The site http://simplegreensmoothies.com/recipes offers some quick and easy recipes. I prep mine the night before and then blend on the morning in a 'blend and go' unit similar to a magic bullet. That way there's no excuses. I use protein powder called Biox Power Whey which comes in a multitude of flavours. I use orange creamsicle for the smoothies to mix it up a bit.

    My favourite one:

    250ml coconut water
    1/2 avocado
100g frozen berries (or more, depends how you like it)
    1/2 banana

And then, depending on your own tastes:

    1 teaspoon chia seeds
    40g vanilla protein powder
1 teaspoon wheatgrass powder, spirulina etc
1 teaspoon cinnamon (tastes great, and apparently helps burn fat!)

    :)
  • Thank you guys:)

Bananas, strawberries, cherries, and blueberries in any proportions makes a delicious smoothie.

I tried banana and cherry with some peanuts and it tasted like PB&J. My kid thought it was weird, I thought it was great, your results may vary.
