Help?! From Phentermine to Paxil...

I'm 32 yo female. I was on Phentermine 37.5 mg daily off and on for years. My lowest adult weight on it was 231.4 LB in Sept '12. Of note is the fact that I care for an disabled elderly parent. Recently, I was laid off work (insurance gone!). With the stressful situation change, I could no longer sleep through the night. Heart palpitations started and my pulse would jump. I promptly went to my physician. She stopped the Phentermine and started Paxil 10 mg daily, which is known to cause weight gain though in this case, heart trumps waistline. Starting Paxil weight was 256 LB. That was 6 weeks ago. Today, I weigh 269 and my appetite is insane... I'm eating around 3k-5k calories almost daily because I'm craving salt or sweet almost 24/7. I go to the gym a couple times and I use free weights but I just find that I'm hungrier afterwards?!?! I'm telling my physician via a check-up because I wanted to give the Paxil appropriate time to take proper effect, which it has. No more heart palpitations and I can sleep regularly and it's cheaper than other medication options. For chemical reasons, I absolutely cannot take both medications together. But what the heck about the appetite and weight?!?! Help... :/

Update: Discussed this with my physician and we decided to stop the Paxil for now. Tomorrow I am starting on Wellbutrin XL 150 MG daily and I'm nervous about that because some of the potential adverse effects (agitation, anxiety, insomnia, palpitations) are the exact same things I was trying to get rid of with the Paxil (which worked except weight gain/appetite was wayyyy too much) so...this is a chemistry experiment. #nervousbutwilling :/ If this attempt to help happens to fail (and I don't have a stroke or anything massively severe happen) then I will go back on Paxil and just wait until finances change so that with insurance I could explore weight loss surgery options because I cannot do this anymore and I cannot do it on my own. Hooray for others who do but I'm strong enough to admit that I need some other forms of help!!! So here goes... :)
