Mozzarella sticks recipe - 40 cal each, 4g protein
Mozzarella sticks, 40 calories a piece 4g of protein in one stick - super awesome. They come out sooooo melty and gooey, but without all the unhealthy fat and grease of restaurant mozzarella sticks. Awesome appetizer for a family party or gathering, or even a football sunday snack!!!

I think I found it!
Low Calorie Mozzarella Sticks
Ingredients:
12 whole Mozzarella String Cheese Sticks, 2% Milk
1 large Whole Egg
2 tbsp Flour
8 tbsp Bread Crumbs (I used 4C Italian Seasoned Panko)
3 tsp Italian Seasoning
2 tsp Parsley Flakes
1 Tbsp Parmesan Cheese
Instructions:
Unwrap your String Cheeses and cut each in half so that you are left with 24 mini-string cheeses. Place these into a Ziploc bag and put them into the freezer – LEAVE IN THE FREEZER UNTIL COMPLETELY FROZEN! Do not take out of the freezer until all other components of the recipe are ready – these need to be as frozen as possible to prevent them from melting in the oven.
Preheat oven to 400°.
Scoop 2 tbsp of Flour onto a small, ridged plate, and shake until a thin layer of flour is formed across the plate. Set aside.
In a small bowl, whisk one large Egg until thoroughly beaten. Set aside.
In another small bowl, combine your Bread Crumbs, Italian Seasoning, Parsley, and Parmesan Cheese, and stir until thoroughly combined. Crush your bread crumb mixture with a spoon until there are no particularly large lumps – it doesn’t need to be as fine as flour, but the crumbs should be pretty small.
Line a large cookie sheet with foil and spray lightly with PAM Olive Oil cooking spray, and set aside.
Once ALL OF THIS is set up and your cheese is COMPLETELY FROZEN – remove the cheese from the freezer. With each cheese, repeat the following: Roll the cheese first in the flour until evenly coated, then dip it into the egg, and then roll in the bread crumb mixture until thoroughly coated. Place the coated cheese stick onto the prepared cookie sheet. Once all sticks have been coated, place the mozzarella sticks in the oven for 4 minutes. Remove the pan, turn each stick over, and then place back into the oven for an additional 3-4 minutes or until the sticks have lightly browned. Keep an eye on them to make sure they don’t get melty.
Remove and enjoy!
** Additionally, if you wish, you may first coat the mozzarella sticks and THEN store them in the freezer until completely frozen, and remove them once they are ready to be baked. **

I would post the pics here but I can never seem to do that without making them enormous and useless Sorry!!! However, I PROMISE they are AWESOME! Picture or not! LOL0

I am happy to report that these are really good reheated as well! Stick them back in the oven for a few minutes until they start to get gooey! (I suppose you could try the microwave but I would imagine that would make them soggy as opposed to crispy).0
-
I'd love to try these, but I wouldn't be able to eat just one or two.0
-
Well that's the beauty of them being so low calorie! You could have 3 or 4 of these for the same calories that you would find in ONE restaurant style mozzarella stick0
-
You could also make a batch and freeze them already breaded and just pop a few in the oven here and there when youre ready to eat them. That way you wont have them laying around waiting to be eaten!0

I've made these before and they were very sad, burst open and just overall not good WOMP WOMP
I think a good tip is to freeze the stick first0 -
yummy0

yes, it it REALLY important to freeze it first!!! And leave them in there for a good couple of hours because they need to be frozen solid when you put them in the oven. Also, try to make that flour coating pretty thick and cover the entire stick with it - this will form a breading coat that will trap all the melty cheese inside and prevent it from spilling out on you!!0
